Two finalists for Singapore will be competing against talents from nine other Asean countries in the AirAsia Runway Ready Designer Search 2017 for the grand prize by showcasing their fashion collection on the runway at KL Fashion Week Ready To Wear, a sponsorship with FashionValet, and more.
Auditions for AirAsia Runway Ready Designer Search 2017 landed in Singapore with full-force. Into its third season, the search for local talent to represent our little red dot at the grand finale was held at Hotel Jen Orchardgateway on 29 April. Among the pool of potential came the two top Singapore finalists – Sil Vu Minh Duc (aged 22) and Fedri Mak (aged 24) – who will be competing against 18 other designers from nine Association of South-East Asian Nations (Asean) countries for a once in a lifetime opportunity.
AirAsia Runway Ready Designer Search 2017 is more than just a fashion competition; it is an excellent starting point for young designers with dreams of starting their own fashion line, understanding the industry and making a mark in the world of fashion. Despite being an airline first and foremost, AirAsia Singapore’s CEO, Logan Velaitham, explains why AirAsia has decided to tackle fashion as well, in the video below.
So why Singapore? We turn to the founder of KL Fashion Week Ready To Wear, Andrew Tan, for answers.
There was a diverse panel of judges this year, including Thai fashion designers Q Design and Play, the Philippines’ Anthony Ramirez and Indonesia’s Mel Ahyar, as well as Vivy Yusof, who co-founded FashionValet, and of course, Andrew Tan. Based on the elements of creativity, originality and consistency, along with the Asean theme of diversity, finalists Sil Vu Minh Duc and Fedri Mak, stood out from the other entrants including those from top schools likes Raffles Design Institute, Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, and LASALLE College of the Arts.
The final battle will be held this August, with the winner bagging prizes worth a minimum of RM350,000, including a showcase of their creations at KL Fashion Week Ready to Wear 2018, and a RM25,000 FashionValet sponsorship to produce a capsule collection that will be sold at FashionValet’s online store. AirAsia will also be gifting 150,000 AirAsia BIG Points, AirAsia flights and more!
