Feast your eyes on fresh collections by homegrown brands and shop up a storm at Runway Singapore.
Calling all fashionistas: dip your toes into the local fashion scene at this showcase of talented designers. That’s right, Runway Singapore is back in 2022 after a three-year hiatus. A collab between the Hive Lavender and Runway Asia, the elegant evening spotlights Singapore-based brands with a chic fashion show.
Grab a cocktail and sit back as the spotlight shines on eight labels – think travel and luxury fashion with a sustainable touch. You’ll be one of the first to sneak a peek at their latest collections, meet the names behind the brands, and shop for some of your favourite looks at the marketplace after the show. Read on to find out more about the designers…
1. Wray Crafted
Forget fast fashion. Wray Crafted loves the earth and wants shopping to be sustainable. Focusing on slow fashion, the brand produces small batch collections a few times each year. It collaborates with various artisans and craftspeople across different collections to produce beautiful pieces you can wear for any occasion.
2. Joannalsm
Look to this emerging homegrown brand helmed by Joanna Lim for bespoke couture and avant-garde fashion. Each unique piece is handmade and created to bring your design dreams to life. If you’d like to shop from the collection, you can also customise any of the looks to fit your style. From crop tops and bodysuits to tees and pencil skirts, Joannalsm does it all.
3. Binary Style
Founded in 2015 by twin sisters Santhi and Sari Tunas, who both have a background in architecture, Binary Style is known for its unique, conversation-starting prints. Intertwining architecture and nature, the designs are inspired by Singapore’s heritage, greenery and local culture. From tops and dresses to scarves and earrings, each piece carries the brand’s quirky, whimsical style.
4. Sheila Tjandra
A final-year textile and fashion design student at Lasalle, Sheila Tjandra has a penchant for experimenting with colours and unconventional materials – of course, creativity is the name of the game. Her stunning maximalist works involve elements of nature, showcased through techniques like hand-crafting, beading, embroidery and print-making.
5. Dear Samfu
Inspired by the good old days, Dear Samfu takes the nostalgic route down memory lane with its sustainable and stylish classics. Your wardrobe doesn’t have to be stuffed to the brim with trendy pieces – just look to timeless designs that flatter. The brand’s small batch collections are inspired by granny’s favourite piece – the samfu – and made with quality rescued fabrics (that would’ve gone straight to landfills). It’s all about vintage vibes with a modern spin, and we’re lovin’ it!
6. Mrs Deco
Mrs Deco takes its name from the glamorous Art Deco movement, showcasing its influences in the quality of fabric, simple design, and prints. Launched in 2020, the brand’s activewear and swimwear collections are handmade in a Balinese factory. Each piece is luxurious and designed for casual days out, leisurely beach holidays or chill afternoons by the pool.
7. Astra Tailoring
This menswear label is one to watch. Led by Ayumi Kwan, the brand mixes masculine touches and classic elements with distinctive details. You won’t see your standard suit at Astra Tailoring. Designs lean towards high-end fashion, with pieces that will instantly make you the centre of attention.
8. New Dawn by Pratyusha
Run by another Lasalle student, New Dawn crafts apparel that gives you the spotlight you crave in a crowd. Each extravagant piece plays around with colour and silhouette, featuring offbeat details you won’t see elsewhere. Got a love for fashion that’s out of the box? Keep tabs on this one.
