A professional photographer with years of experience in media sales, Rebecca Downie puts her unique position to good use by offering valuable services to local businesswomen.
We love entrepreneurs and small business owners at Honeycombers, which is why we’ve created Launchpad, a comprehensive digital networking platform (with IRL benefits, too) that encourages connection, business support and community. It’s a privilege and pleasure to learn from so many talented and inspiring folks, so we’ve decided to share the love by interviewing some of the lovely Launchpad members. Looking for inspiration? Check out how Rebecca Downie, the founder of Rebecca Downie Photography, gets it done like a boss.
How I get it done: Rebecca Downie
What is your backstory and why did you decide to launch your business?
After spending 15 years in media sales across the UK and Australia, I wanted to be my own boss so I could choose my hours around the kids. Whilst living in Sydney, I took a number of photography courses and decided to combine my passion with business. I started in newborn and family photography and built a network of local businesswomen around me.
I noticed in real life they were amazing but their online profile was letting them down and it saddened me. I discovered brand photography and felt it combined my marketing experience with photography. Therefore, I was in a unique position to offer something really valuable. I feel that I have really found my calling. I love it and so do my clients!

On a typical morning
My kid’s school bus comes at 7.14am so it’s an early start. I take a cup of tea back to bed and catch up on what’s been happening overnight. I’m not part of the 5am club at all!
On dealing with self-doubt and criticism
It’s a constant battle. Some days I win, some days I don’t. I am kinder to myself these days, which helps. A good trick is to go back and read testimonials that clients have left. They never fail to lift me up and restore some confidence. Find your tribe: those women who believe in you even when you don’t. It’s priceless.
On keeping stress levels low
Stress is one thing I don’t struggle with. Anxiety at times, but not so much stress. Getting outside, having a swim, date nights with hubby, face-timing my mum, playing with the kids or meeting a friend really help me switch off.

On staying motivated and energised
Is anyone energised?! Kidding. My passion for helping businesswomen show up with confidence energises me. I love seeing my work used to raise women’s profiles, grow their businesses, and make the changes they want to in the world through their business growth. I truly love it. My clients energise me. They’re all so passionate about what they do: from mindset coaches to nutritionists, wealth managers to accountants, social media gurus to yogis and everyone in between.
On the advice you’d give your younger self
People are judging you way less than you think. If they’re judging you, they aren’t your friend and you shouldn’t care. Find your tribe and be yourself; you’ll find a much calmer self. Don’t think that the career you start out in has to be forever. You’re in charge of your future.
On winding down in the evening
Can’t deny that a glass of something cold is a favourite way to wind down. I love smashing through a good box set with the hubby after busy days – This Is Us, anyone? Being fairly new to Singapore, I’m keen to get out and meet people, socialise, build my network and explore this great city!
