If your Spotify or Apple Music playlists include chart-topping mainstream hits, not being able to fangirl to Harry Styles, 5 Seconds of Summer and Bruno Mars is an absolute nightmare. With all the right concerts ahead for your monthly dose of live music, May’s line-up includes throwbacks from Squeeze and Stereophonics, Dua Lipa for you and your girl gang, R&B sets with Kehlani and H.E.R, and Iron & Wine if you feel like toning the night down with some folk…
Harry Styles (with Warpaint)
3 May
It looks like boyband graduate Harry Styles is taking on a new direction – that is, going solo. Following the hiatus of One Direction, Styles has been working on new material, released a pop-friendly single called ‘Sign Of The Times’, and also announced his world tour. And we’re in luck, because the British heartthrob will be making a comeback in May, following his November gig. This time with LA-based atmospheric art-rock quartet Warpaint. Well now, ain’t that different.
Harry Styles – Live on Tour 2018, 3 May, Singapore Indoor Stadium; Tickets available via Sports Hub Tix.

Dua Lipa
4 May
It’s no surprise that mega popstar Dua Lipa had a venue upgrade to accommodate her huge legion of fans here. Making her mark, the ‘New Rules’ singer is topping charts with catchy singles, scooping awards, selling out shows around the world, and smashing record-breaking streaming figures. With sultry vocals against dancey beats, trust us, you’ll ‘Be the One’ to bust a move or two.

Since the reunion of Ivor Novello Award-winning songwriting duo Chris Difford and Glenn Tillbrook 10 years ago, new wave band Squeeze is back on tour with new smashing recordings. The band will be performing its vast catalogue of hits including ‘Cool For Cats’, ‘Up The Junction’ and ‘Tempted’, as well as the soundtrack to the BBC sitcom, Cradle to the Grave, at NUS next year. Guess who’s bringing ‘24K Magic’ to the city? He’s got the moves, the grooves and of course, ‘The Uptown Funk’ – it’s Bruno Mars! As part of the 24K Magic World Tour, the ‘Versace on the Floor’ singer will be returning to our sunny shores (his last sold-out gig here was in 2014) with hits from his latest chart-topping album including number one single ‘That’s What I Like’.

Decades later, these Welsh rockers are still going strong, with the 20th anniversary of their debut album taking place this year. Returning to Singapore with tracks off their tenth studio album, Scream Above the Sounds, as well as revisiting throwback hits such as ‘Dakota’, ‘Maybe Tomorrow’ and ‘Have a Nice Day’ – we’re sure these guys won’t disappoint the crowds here.

Iron & Wine
14 May
With a strong presence in the indie-folk scene, Iron & Wine (aka Sam Beam) is a force to be reckoned with. Resisting the trappings of the old-timey def of folk, he is set to perform – full band and all – fresh breezy acoustics off his latest sixth LP, Beast Epic, along with his bag of lush, folk tunes from previous releases, including ‘Naked as We Came’ and ‘Flightless Bird, American Mouth’.
Iron & Wine – Live in Singapore, 14 May 2018, Capitol Theatre, 17 Stamford Road, Singapore 178907; Tickets available via Ticketbox.
Kehlani
23 May
Known for telling it like it is, contemporary R&B siren Kehlani will be bringing SweetSexySavage to Singapore this month. The Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter has enjoyed major success since debuting her mixtape Cloud19 in 2014. With a track in Suicide Squad, massive collaborations with Chance the Rapper, Calvin Harris and G-Easy, and chart-topping hits like ‘CRZY’ and ‘Honey’, it seems there’s no slowing down for this young artiste.
Kehlani – Live in Singapore, 23 May 2018, Zepp@BIGBOX, 1 Venture Avenue, Singapore 608521; Tickets available via SISTIC.
H.E.R.
31 May
Behind that mysterious facade of big hair and a pair of shades is H.E.R. (acronym for Having Everything Revealed). Though her true identity has been revealed (it’s singer Gabi Wilson, guys!), her fanbase just keeps on growing, adding Rihanna and Alicia Keys to the mix. Debuting with fresh contemporary R&B via her debut EP, Volume 1, and the follow-up, Volume 2, tracks such as ‘Focus’, ‘Losing’, a cover of Drake’s ‘Jungle’, and ‘Best Part’, an acoustic-tinged duet with Daniel Caesar (who recently performed three sold-out shows in March), has us eagerly waiting to catch the songstress live at the city’s unlikeliest venue.
H.E.R. – The Lights On Tour, 31 May 2018, The Space @ Savourworld, 2 Science Park Dr, Singapore 118222; Tickets available via SISTIC.
