Or, satisfy your craving for Chinese delicacies with Jia Wei Chinese Restaurant’s new dim sum and a la carte menu. Order the half Boston lobster hor fun, braised chicken cutlet with garlic and dried chilli in claypot (tip: it pairs divinely with warm, fluffy rice!), and salted egg layer cake for the table – we promise your dining companions will thank you.
Feeling peckish? Pop by Roxy Divine on the ground floor for a quick bite of cakes and freshly made grilled sandwiches, paired with a gourmet cup of coffee (or tea). We’d also recommend checking out the poolside bar, Breez Bar. It’s the perfect spot to soak in the sun with a drink in hand, or knock back a tipple or two before calling it a night.
The neighbourhood: Vibrant enclave for endless exploration
Feeling rested, well-fed and ready to explore? Good news: there’s something to see at every turn in the neighbourhood.
Starting with our city’s historic treasures, check out the Sri Senpaga Vinayagar Temple. It’s one of Singapore’s oldest Hindu temples which features a Chola dynasty architectural style. Next, dive deep into Peranakan culture at the preserved shophouse, Katong Antique House, or The Intan. The latter is a private home with one of the city’s most impressive Peranakan artefact collections, including ornate beaded slippers and enamel tiffin carriers.
Shopaholics, you don’t want to miss the cool boutiques tucked in the nooks and crannies of the neighbourhood, too. Bookmark stores such as the eclectic Cat Socrates for all sorts of knick-knacks; vintage boutiques like A Vintage Tale; as well as multi-label store The Wyld Shop.
And for the ‘gram, make a final stop at the conserved Peranakan shophouses along Koon Seng Road. Painted in colourful hues, this famous row of two- to three-storey shophouses dates back to as early as the 1920s. These are the last few residences in Singapore featuring this distinctive Peranakan style, so don’t leave without snapping some photos!
The location: Easy accessibility at your doorstep
You’re on a staycation. Of course, you have to take every chance to feel like a tourist. And what better way to do so than to check out the city’s top attractions? In true tourist fashion, you can’t say you’ve explored all of Singapore if you haven’t been to landmarks like our first Unesco World Heritage Site, the Botanic Gardens; the captivating Gardens By The Bay; and our bustling shopping district along Orchard Road.
Thanks to Grand Mercure Singapore Roxy’s stellar location, visiting these popular spots will be a breeze. Set right opposite Marine Parade MRT station, the hotel is a mere one-minute walk from the new Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL). Simply take a short stroll, hop on the brown line, and you’ll be off to these spots in no time.
Beyond these tourist landmarks, there’s lots more to be uncovered along the TEL, too. Drop off at more obscure neighbourhoods, like Tanjong Rhu, Bayshore and Lentor, to discover under-the-radar gems…
