A Virtual Voyage through Masterpieces is a cultural programme featuring VR (Virtual Reality) films based on masterpieces by Edouard Manet, Claude Monet, Paul Gauguin and Arnold Böcklin. It is curated and presented by Fantasium Group as part of the vOilah! France Singapore Festival 2020 in the Gardens by the Bay from 24 October to 8 November 2020.
The family-friendly programme comprises three components: VR art exhibition, creative workshops and online chats with French renowned film directors and producers. The exhibition offers an exploration of four dreamlike VR animation films from the renowned French directors: A bar at Folies Bergère (based on Edouard Manet’s major work), The Water Lilies Obsession (Claude Monet’s famous garden), Gauguin’s Inner Journey (Paul Gaugin’s life in Tahiti) and Isle of the dead (inspired by Adrian Böcklin’s mysterious painting). The virtual show provides a new perspective that allows alternatively to discover these masterpieces. Admission: $10 per ticket.
The second part of the programme consists of creative workshops, where participants ages 8 and above will learn how to express ideas beyond two dimensions. In Monet’s Workshop, they will learn how to paint with virtual brushes like an Impressionist of the 21st century and design their own water lilies garden. In Gauguin’s Workshop, they will get to dab into a style that is intensely colourful as typical of this French artist. Admission: $35 per person.
The third component is Online Chats, where participants ages 16 and above will get an exclusive virtual meet-up with the award-winners of the VR films from the exhibition though Zoom sessions. Hosted by Deborha Daniele (Deda), a senior lecturer at the School of Interactive and Digital Media in Nanyang Polytechnic, Nicolas Thépot, Benjamin Nuel and Igal Kohen will join online dialogues from Paris to give behind the scenes insights of immersive filmmaking and their professional journey. Admission: Free.
