Looking for a hot new bar in Singapore? This famous Manhattan bar is coming our way with its signature craft cocktails and bespoke service
There’s no shortage of great new cocktail bars in Singapore, but this is one opening we’re totally psyched for. Cocktail connoisseurs and lovers of all that is New York might already be savvy with the veritable institution that is Employees Only on Hudson Street. But guess what? It seems like the world’s fourth best bar is finally making strides outside of The Big Apple, and it’s picked our Garden City for its debut foray. For those of you still wondering what all the fuss is about, here’re five reasons why we’re chuffed for the arrival of Employees Only in Singapore.
This establishment helped spur the craft cocktail movement in New York City
It’s no surprise that the craft cocktail movement has its roots in the heart of New York City. Through the prohibition era, the city’s hidden speakeasies like Employees Only persisted, continuously mixing up finely crafted cocktails for thirsty city slickers. That passion has endured for decades, and the 2000s saw the resurgence of this in the form of the craft cocktail movement. And now, Singapore will finally get a taste of Employees Only’s signatures like the Ginger Smash, the Provençal and the classic Manhattan cocktail made with Rittenhouse Rye and Italian Vermouth.
It’s the bar’s first venture out of The Big Apple
We’re absolutely stoked that Employees Only’s first opening outside of New York is going to be in Singapore, because it shows we’ve made a name for ourselves in the world of craft cocktails. Not surprising, considering our goldmine of cocktail bars that you can find in our city!
It’ll be run by a trio from the original Employees Only
It’s tough to perfectly recreate the experience from the original Employees only in New York, but don’t worry about not getting the real deal. Employees Only’s principal bartender Steve Schneider, co-founder Igor Hadzismajlovic and executive chef Julia Jaksic have moved to Singapore to helm Employees Only, bringing along years of bartending experience and hopefully that same chaotic energy that defined the original.
There will be unconventional bar bites
If you find yourself at an offshoot of one of the world’s best bars, chances are food isn’t the first thing on your mind. But Julia Jaksic’s presence here suggests we might see some of her signature dishes like the bone marrow poppers with pastry shell & bordelaise, or the immaculately prepared hand-cut steak tartare.
It’s smack in the heart of Amoy
Jigger & Pony, The Spiffy Dapper and Bitters and Love are just some of Amoy’s spectacular roster of cocktail bars, and Employees Only’s entrance into the scene at 112 Amoy Street will only enliven it. We expect this bar to be pretty popular with the after-work crowd looking for an elevated cocktail experience.
