Love Bali, and love luxury escapes? The new six-star Apurva Kempinski resort Nusa Dua is one spectacular stay...
We’re not shy about our love affair with Bali, or the fact that we count quick holidays from Singapore as an official hobby. Got a serious case of wanderlust and a thing for the luxe life too? Hot new Nusa Dua resort The Apurva Kempinski Bali is on our radar thanks to its amazing ocean views, palatial design and lush tropical landscapes in every sun-soaked direction. But unlike most upmarket island destinations, six-star splendour isn’t all you’ll find at this divine escape…
Capturing the essence, art and identity of Indonesia, this luxury stay pays homage to its homeland in every way possible. From the breathtaking interiors that have been crafted by local artisans, to the impressive architecture that resembles a majestic open-air Indonesian theatre, The Apurva Kempinski Bali has found the perfect balance between time-honoured tradition and 21st century indulgences.
Think award-winning restaurants anchored by the flavours of the region; an ocean-facing luxe spa that offers treatments inspired by traditional Balinese and Javanese healing; and striking designer suites that are peppered with indigenous artefacts, rich exotic woods, local fabrics and iconic Indonesian motifs…
If that wasn’t enough to get your suitcases packed, here’s why The Apurva Kempinski Bali just moved right to the top of our wanderlust list…
The natural panorama
Cascading down Nusa Dua’s undulating hillside like one of Bali’s iconic rice paddies, The Apurva Kempinski is an architectural masterpiece that’s designed to seamlessly merge with the surrounding landscapes. Natural-clad stone, bougainvillea-covered terraces, tumbling waterfalls and shimmering pools descend down to the Indian Ocean, centred by a 250-step Grand Staircase that’s reminiscent of Bali’s sacred Pura Besakih water temple. All of this is then fronted by Nusa Dua’s pristine coastline, where swaying palms, white sands and calm cobalt waters await…
The Location, location, location
The Apurva Kempinski is blessed with a cliff-top address in the gorgeous Nusa Dua neighbourhood – an area sprawling with stunning sandy beaches, an upmarket shopping complex, and luxurious restaurants galore. This prime position means any holiday here is perfectly situated for every whim or desire, be it a girl’s getaway or an oh-so romantic couple’s escape. You can go from the secluded bays of Uluwatu to the buzzing boutiques of Seminyak within 30 minutes in either direction, while some of Bali’s most beautiful beaches are right on your sandy doorstep.
The swoon-worthy suites and private villas
If it’s a grand island villa or wow-worthy suite you’re after, then your holiday hunt can officially stop here. The accommodation options at The Apurva Kempinski have spared no expense or space, with sprawling lounge areas, palatial bedrooms and tropical outdoor nooks for that all-important Bali vibe. Our fave is the Cliff Private Pool Ocean Junior Suite, with panoramic sea views, a private plunge pool and outdoor bath. They even come with exclusive VIP access to the Cliff Lounge and Cliff Pools….
The delish dining destinations
It wouldn’t be a luxurious island resort without delicious dining destinations, so The Apurva Kempinski Bali has gone above and beyond with six (yes, six!) extraordinary signature restaurants. This collection of culinary showstoppers celebrates the colourful cuisines of Indonesia and beyond, all the while wowing you with foodie experiences par excellence. Think coastal delicacies from around the archipelago at Koral (Bali’s first ever aquarium restaurant), authentic Japanese flavours at Izakaya by OKU (it’s already won awards in Jakarta), and live cooking stations at Pala Restaurant & Rooftop Bar – one of our fave spots for a date night beneath the stars.
The Indigenous Apurva Spa
Fronting the dazzling resort and overlooking the glittering ocean, you’ll find Apurva Spa. Here, six-star body and beauty treatments are inspired by time-honoured Javanese and Balinese healing practices, using traditional ointments such as lulur (a herb and spice body scrub) to target outer beauty, while sunrise yoga and meditation pave the path to inner balance. All of the treatments here are tailor-made, using different oils and lulur depending on each guests’ individual needs.
The “I dos” beneath the stars
With its lush beachfront location, stunning collection of suites and spectacular dining destinations, The Apurva Kempinski is an obvious choice for a dreamy “I do”. The resort’s sweeping 2,200 square-metre ocean-facing lawn provides a totally blank canvas for an al fresco cocktail reception beneath the stars, while the three wedding chapels (yes, three!) can host magical ceremonies both large and small. Our fave is The Apurva Chapel – a striking 100-seat glass-fronted venue that boasts mesmerising views of the Indian Ocean, sitting next door to the three-bedroom Nusantara Presidential Villa; the ultimate retreat for newlyweds.
