If you're looking to mix up your workout routine, then XP Fitness Hub in Central may be just what you're looking for
I love to move. I am at my best when I am moving and sweating. There are so many forms of movement and the options we have in this city are endless: yoga studios, pilates classes, CrossFit – you name it, and I’ll do it all! So with XP Fitness Hub bringing a host of new concepts and classes to Hong Kong, I couldn’t wait for a #SweatSesh there!
Getting moving at XP Fitness Hub
With an ethos that a fit and healthy lifestyle can be achieved without being restricted to the same old movements or routines, making fitness fun again if you will, here’s five reasons why you need to take one of the classes at XP Fitness Hub.
#1. Calories, Calories, Calories
XP Fitness Hub gives you your best bang for your buck in terms of calories. An average HIIT session can burn around 500 calories. At the Hub’s +Elite classes, you can expect to burn anywhere from 700 to 1,200 calories. Now that’s no small feat!
#2. Train Without Pain
Many of the programmes at XP are designed to maximise effort and burn more calories whilst reducing damage to your ankles, knees, hips and back.
Kangoo Jumps – yes as in, kangaroo – are exercise boots that look like rollerblades with springs attached to the soles instead of wheels. After the initial trepidation when I was strapped into the Kangoo boots, before I knew it, I was parading around the room as if I was strutting down the catwalk in 6-inch stilettos. Along with supporting your joints and bones, they’re good for correcting posture and spinal alignment. They can even cater to those with previous joint injuries, and the fun factor is #ForReal.
#3. Train like a pop star
Are you like me where you like to sweat to the soundtrack of Britney and imagine that you ARE Britney, lip-syncing and dancing till the world ends!?
Well, look no further than Funky Dance, a dance fitness program, that will have you moonwalking and body popping like the greats in no time! I spent a large part of this class, trying to keep up with the choreography but if you think you have two left feet, don’t let that put you off… it’s really fun just throwing shapes and you leave tired and absolutely drenched in sweat so it definitely feels like a work out!
If you’re less Britney and more Brit Rock, then POUND will allow you to let loose. After a hard days work, you can really let it all out with this high energy jam that uses light-weight drumsticks and combines cardio, conditioning and strength training with yoga and pilates-inspired movements.
#4. Train like an action hero
4D PRO Bungee is one of the studio’s signature classes. Picture yourself suspended from the ceiling using your own body weight to launch yourself to the floor and across the room making like you can fly.
With the Mission: Impossible theme playing in the background, I engaged every muscle I had to bounce and steady myself. It was both empowering and intimidating but once again I quickly found myself grinning from ear to ear.
Quick tip – Actually imagining you are a secret agent running and jumping around saving the world, does help with any fears that you will face plant.
#5. Everyone is welcome
As evidenced by the diversity of classes on offer, the tone at XP Fitness Hub is different. It’s refreshing to see a place where women and men of all fitness levels can easily blend with the exercises and not be held back.
The mix of cardio and strength training is unique and will put you out of your comfort zone but the group atmosphere allows you to feed off this energy to push yourself harder.
The classes are, in a word, FUN. And, if I may add a second word, TIRING (but in a good way). As with the case of the Kangoo boots, once you’re strapped in, it’s hard to stop yourself from bouncing… and smiling.
