It's time to head into the great outdoors for a sweat sesh with these different groups around Hong Kong
Everywhere you look, there are fanatics decked out in head-to-toe yoga clothes; new alternative healing spaces opening; and workout pros on Instagram garnering attention with their unique styles. And it’s no surprise that one increasingly popular fitness trend is outdoor exercise, with hoards of sweaty people stumbling and panting closely followed by a trainer barking orders to move faster, push harder and be stronger. When mother nature grants us a bit of a break from the heat and humidity, it’s the perfect time to switch off Netflix, put down your smartphone and get out into nature for that #sweatsesh. Outdoor fitness classes in Hong Kong that we love
Leading the charge, founder Jason Sinarwi wanted to create a safe workout space for those who were intimidated by big gyms, long term contracts, pricey gym fees and aggressive sales reps. “A large inspiration behind Sunday Shred being outdoors is that we spend so much of our working week indoors that the sights, the smells, the sounds, the air, all do something good to the mind and the body.”
Often mixing body weight bootcamp style exercises with some meditation and stretching, you can join one of their Tamar Park classes via their Instagram page @sundayshredhk
More and more fitness is about community, especially with the case of this free workout group that meets up to two times a week. Their motto that ‘everyone is welcome’, dispels the excuse that you aren’t fit enough to join – it’s encouraged to show up with an open mind and a willing body.
There is a lot of high fiving and expect to be encouraged by not only the coaches but by your fellow sweat buddies.
Typically classes are held at Sun Yat Sen Memorial Park in Sai Ying Pun on Wednesday mornings with their Friday classes in varied locations. No sign up is required but you can check out the action at @novemberprojecthk
Putting the fun back into fitness, this little bootcamp that could, is the brainchild of fit couple Jess & Hurmen. With the love of moving and sweating, they wanted to share this passion with the idea that not every workout has to be taken so seriously. Exploring moving in and around outdoor parks and the using the city landscape as the gym, workouts are then taken to a nearby cafe or bar to kick back, network and socialise afterwards. After all, you’re still working those biceps when you lift that pint to your lips aren’t you!?
Scheduled to launch early next year, you can check out their Instagram at @beerbodyhk
