With fermented probiotic goodies for your gut and your immune system, it's time to treat yo'self to some of the best kombucha in Hong Kong
Tea has always been a staple in Hong Kong culture. After all, dim sum is one of the defining elements of Hong Kong culture, and there’s no dim sum without the yum cha. And don’t even get us started on the best afternoon tea, or our weekly bubble tea indulgence. For those looking for a slightly healthier treat, kombucha can also scratch that itch for an afternoon cuppa. Although it’s also a part of Korean culture, kombucha originated in northeastern China and is usually made with black or green tea, sweetened with sugar, and—most importantly—packed with healthy probiotic bacteria and yeast.
The difference between kombucha and regular tea is the fermentation that results from the symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast (SCOBY) in kombucha. Similar to other fermented foods like yogurt and kimchi, the probiotic bacteria and yeast in kombucha can help improve your overall gut health and boost your immune system. Other benefits include aiding in digestion, debloating, weight loss and more. Given the health benefits—and also that it’s deliciously fizzy and refreshing—there are a number of places to find kombucha in Hong Kong.
