We’re all about the food life. From indulging in Indian street food at Kailash Parbat to finding the best vegetarian restaurants in Hong Kong and keeping you up-to-date with all the latest food news thanks to Hong Kong Foodporn, we know what’s good. So when Maximal Concepts shared the news about their latest opening John Anthony, of course we had to fill you in.
Who is John Anthony?
Hot news just in from Maximal Concepts. The F&B group has announced that they will be opening a Chinese restaurant in Lee Garden Three, Causeway Bay at the end of the month.
Named John Anthony (we’re guessing after the alleged first British Englishman?), the goal was to create a space that incorporates as many sustainable features as possible, including a composting system in the kitchen to prevent food waste, fully recyclable/biodegradable takeaway containers, plant-based paints and staff uniforms created from dead-stock.
What about the food?
Mott 32’s Group Executive Chef, Lee Man-Sing and John Anthony’s Executive Chef, Saito Chu have jointly created the menu for the restaurants that takes inspiration from journeys along the Spice Routes, blending influenced from Cantonese, such as grill-roasted meats and dim sum, Szechuan, Hunan and Shandong flavours.
Guests will be able to experience food from three custom-built grills drawn from researching ancient tandoor ovens in Southwest China.
- The Flat Bed BBQ will cook signature Char Siu dishes, including Iberico Presa Pork Char Siu
- The Top Load BBQ is specified for northern spiced meats such as Slow-cooked Lamb Shoulder with Cumin dry rub
- The Kettle BBQ will be the beast that cooks Signature Cantonese Goose and more at John Anthony
You can also expect a range of wonderful dim sum, including Alaskan Crab Dumpling with Egg White & Shrimp Roe, Steamed Rice Roll with Soft-Shell Crab & Squid Ink and Black Truffle Vegetarian Siu Mai.
Centrepieces at the bar will include 12-litre gin tubes, containing house-infused blends featuring botanicals from along the Spice Routes, and the menu will include four signature Gin & Tonics, as well as a number of creative cocktails.
John Anthony will open its doors on September 21st, and is now taking dinner pre-bookings. We can’t wait to find out more!
