Enjoy a fresh new haircut at Love Hair in Central, a sustainable and eco-friendly hair salon that uses organic and low chemical products on your hair.
We at Honeycombers Hong Kong believe that taking care of your body and mind is a vital and important part of maintaining a healthy and wholesome lifestyle. Physical transformations can be a symbolism of change and a desire for something new and fresh. After months of avoiding getting a haircut in Hong Kong, I was due for a trim and a new hairstyle, and Love Hair in Central, founded by Toni Sutton-Marcus, offered to help me out.
Love Hair in Central
Amid the streets of Central, you will find a metal dark green door, where when buzzed in, upstairs, on the first floor is a small hair studio affectionately named, Love Hair. The salon has a bright, simple and clean wooden interior which reflects Love Hair’s objective of being sustainable and eco-friendly, along with its aim of producing as little waste as possible.
Make sure you have arranged an appointment with the hair studio ahead of time – because they get really busy, and when you do arrive at the reception, give them your name and take a seat. The stylists at Love Hair want you to be as comfortable and relaxed as possible, and you can enjoy a cup of tea or glass of water upon sitting on the salon chairs.
Hair treatments at Love Hair
My goal for my hair was a no mess and easy to maintain hairstyle, since I never seem to find the energy in the morning to do more than throw a brush through it. My hair has always been jet black, dead straight, lacking volume and thick, and before I went in it was really long. It had not suffered much abuse other than from the heavy winds and humid weather the past eight to nine months I avoided finding a hair salon nursing a few dry ends and split ends.
In desperate need of treatment, I had a cruelty-free, no paraben and no sulfate shampoo wash and deep conditioning that was kind on my skin and hair. Love Hair uses hair products that are organic or contain low-level chemicals including brands like Kevin Murphy and John Masters Organic. As the stylist gently massaged my scalp and the products set into my hair, I felt incredibly relaxed and at ease. It felt good knowing that it was finally receiving the nutrients it required.
A low maintenance fresh cut
As I sat back down on the salon chair and let the stylist do what she does best, I enjoyed a soothing and warm peppermint tea. She was more than happy to answer my questions about maintaining and taking care of my hair, giving me plenty of tips and advice about haircare, and then we talked about bands and the city it was almost as if I was at a spa and I had my own friendly personal stylist for the day.
The initial cut to get the collarbone length hair was liberating, I immediately felt lighter. The Love Hair stylist trimmed the tips of and sides of hair, providing it with some layers to provide some volume in my otherwise flat hair. The shorter cut and blunt style was fresh, and my hair was blow-dried to look soft, healthy and silky.
I will definitely return for the low-chemical and organic hair treatments and the welcoming atmosphere.
