An ever popular seasonal dish, claypot rice is always one of our personal highlights during winter in Hong Kong.
Hong Kong’s chilly winter calls for warming and nourishing meals. While cosying up with a cuppa brewed with quality leaves from local tea shops is always a good idea, we also love frequenting hot pot restaurants and K-BBQ joints when the temperature drops. Another must-eat dish in winter is claypot rice. True to its name, these rice dishes are served in the claypot they’re cooked with to retain heat as you dig in. Expect nothing less than flavourful toppings, pillowy rice, and crunchy rice crusts with the best claypot rice in Hong Kong.

3. Four Seasons Claypot Rice (四季煲仔飯)
While claypot rice is known as a winter delicacy, you can get it anytime at Four Seasons. Crafted in old-fashioned claypots, the items guarantee superb authenticity. We had had our doubts about the Eel with Blood Sausage Rice, but its complex flavours actually blew us away! Not to mention the claypot rice here pairs exceptionally well with a cold pint. For less adventurous eaters, the classic Chinese Sausage and Chicken Rice will impress you with its rich flavours and crispy rice at the bottom of the pot.

Make your way to Temple Street for Hing Kee Restaurant. Beloved for its charcoal stove-roasted claypot rice, Hing Kee never disappoints. The signature Preserved Meats Claypot Rice is elevated with a combo of preserved pork belly, Chinese sausage, and foie gras sausage, while the Ground Beef and Egg Claypot Rice also gets our seal of approval with the perfect ratio of topping to rice to crunch.

6. Chikayan Hotpot Rice (池家人煲仔飯)

While Chikayan specialises in Hakka cuisine, we’re heard great things about its claypot rice selection, too. The White Eel and Yellow Eel Rice is a must-try, while the Salted Fish with Meatloaf Rice is sure to satisfy. Consider yourself a claypot rice connoisseur? We highly recommend the Pickled Vegetables with Chinese Edible Frog Rice! And if you’re dining with a big group, add on Chikayan’s Hakka Yellow Wine Chicken and Stir-fried Water Spinach with Preserved Beancurd for some variety.
