If you're a barfly with a need for good service, amazing cocktails and hearty eats, then you need to know The Pontiac
We like to keep things real when it comes to the best bars in Hong Kong. While there’s a bunch of great brunches in town and a new restaurant popping up every minute, it’s harder to find a watering hole that gets it. Luckily, the fam at The Pontiac are here for all your bar-propping needs, and we’re counting all the ways we love thee.
1. The people
If you’re looking for a bar with ginuwine (yes, we went there) service, then this is it. Yeah, the staff at The Pontiac make a mean drink, but it’s their follow-through that sets them apart, and why they get asked to pop-up at so many spots across the globe. Tracy, Beckaly and team care about their customers as much as they care about the fam that works behind the bar, and this makes for a little slice of happy right there on Old Bailey Street.
2. The drinks
The new menu at The Pontiac is epicly good and they infuse the personalities and cultures of different team members into it, which we really get behind. Take the Palamig Ti Punch, a creation from bar manager Tracy Villegas. Oozing flavours that she recounts from a childhood in The Philippines, this divine boozy rendering of Samalamig is even topped off with black jelly in homage to HK.
On the complete other end of the scale, Beckaly Franks has created what can only be described as a complete mouth fuck with Bad Dream Mama. The first ingredient on the list is “Cacao carmel reposado” which kind of gives you an idea of what you’re getting, but NOBODY (or at least not me) expects the Spanish Inquisition or the fullness of that cacao butter on first swig. So freaking good.
On top of a badass cocktail menu, the wines are biodynamic, the spirit selection is first class, oh, and they’re constantly on Asia’s 50 Best Bars list, and the World’s 50 Best Bars list – so there’s that.
3. The food
Praise the mighty food gods, as The Pontiac just started doing food to fuel you as drink, and the sexy goodies they’ve created will definitely fill that gap. From the Chili Con Carne (or Veggie Chili) to the Sly Dog, you know you’ll be in for a taste sensation. Craving something a little extra? Go for the Ponty Sly that covers that bun all over in lush chili.
4. The fact they’re open from 3pm Monday-Saturday
Enough said, really.
5. Ponty Hour
