Where to Stay in Uluwatu: Choosing your villa base
Uluwatu is technically one small part of the Bukit Peninsula, but it’s used as the blanket term for the entire area. And within the Bukit, there are several distinct neighbourhoods, each with their own personality. Here’s how to choose the right base for your trip.
Bingin
Bingin is a local village with bohemian soul. It’s a tight-knit surf community with great cafes, boutiques and restaurants all within easy walking distance. Bingin Beach used to be the main draw, but the famous warungs, villas and restaurants on the beach were recently demolished, leaving terrible debris, rubble and limited access to the beach. That said, Bingin remains one of the best places to stay in Uluwatu. You’re minutes from other nearby beaches, and it’s where you’ll find some of the best dining and accommodation.
Villas in Bingin: The Young Villas, Lago Villas, Melali Bingin, Jumah Bingin, Casa Sula, Bandido Bali, Slim Summer House, Villa Zyloh
Padang Padang & Labuan Sait
This is Uluwatu’s busiest and most convenient base. Jalan Labuan Sait is lined with some of the best restaurants and cafes on the Bukit, and it’s home to the ever-famous Padang Padang Beach – yes, the one from Eat, Pray, Love! It’s reached through a narrow cave entrance and is the most popular beach in Uluwatu (it can get super busy). This area is ideal if swimming and sunbathing are high on your agenda.

Suluban & Uluwatu Cliffs
This is where Uluwatu’s dramatic side really shows up, with sweeping ocean views, world-class surf and sundowners at Single Fin, arguably the best sunset bar in Bali. It’s centred around the main Uluwatu corner, with buzzing bars, cliff clubs and restaurants nearby. Best for anyone who wants front-row views and a lively atmosphere to match.
Villas in Suluban: Uluwatu Surf Villas, Summer Ulu
Pecatu Hilltops
Pecatu is the official name for the greater Uluwatu area, but for most locals, it refers to the central hillside neighbourhood. It’s greener and less built-up than the cliff areas, with sweeping sunset views and a more secluded feel. This area is the furthest from the beach, but the elevated position means you get sunset views, and you’re well-placed to explore neabry neighbourhoods beyond Uluwatu, like Jimbaran, Nusa Dua and Melasti .
Villas in Pecatu: Hideaway Villas, The Surga Villa Estate
Nyang Nyang
Nyang Nyang is home to Uluwatu’s most remote and unspoilt beach – a long, wild stretch of white sand beneath a dramatic cliff-face. Up on those clifftops sit some of the most breathtaking villas in the area, making the most of the ocean panorama. There aren’t many restaurants and cafes nearby, so this one is for beach lovers and those who want seclusion, without being far from the action.
Villas in Nyang Nyang: Private Jet Villa, Uluwatu Estate
Balangan
Balangan is Uluwatu’s quieter neighbourhood – a little further from Bingin and Suluban, but home to one of the most beautiful beaches, still lined with local warungs. Dreamland Beach is just minutes away too, so you have two stunning stretches of sand on your doorstep.

New & trending villas in Uluwatu
1. Slim Summer House
A chic design-led four-bedroom villa with private wellness facilities.

Slim Summer House is a four bedroom residence in the heart of Bingin, but it feels like a mid-century Mediterranean mansion. It’s incredibly spacious, with over-height ceilings, marble everywhere and quirky detailing at every turn.
One of the highlights? Slim Summer House has Aperol Spritz on tap, which says everything you need to know about the vibe here. Even better, they also have a sauna and ice bath that are fully private, so you can wind down at your own pace.
To top it all off, this villa is perfectly positioned, close to Bingin’s best cafes and nearby beaches.
Best for: Couples or small groups looking for a stylish Bingin stay with thoughtful lifestyle touches.
How many bedrooms: 1, 2, 4 & 8 bedrooms.
Price: From IDR 2,300,000++ per night.
Address: Jl. Pantai Bingin, Bingin
2. Jumah Bingin
A beautifully crafted one-bedroom private pool villa in the heart of Bingin, made with all local materials.

Jumah sits right in the thick of it – on the same little lane as Gooseberry restaurant and Santai Recovery, next door to the new Sejati Uluwatu boutique hotel. It’s designed, built and managed by the same team behind Melali Bingin (our Bingin favourite), and that shows in every detail, namely the craftsmanship.
Built entirely from local stone, timber and natural materials (not a lick of paint in sight!) this one-bedroom villa is rooted in its surroundings in the best possible way. There’s a rainwater capturing system, nods to Balinese culture throughout, and a real sense of calm. It’s feels incredibly private, nudging a cow paddock and banana plantation.
Inside, the attention to detail is exceptional. Warm natural light pours in, and the kitchens are fully equipped to western standards. And the best part? You get the privacy and independence of a private villa, with the warm, thoughtful service the Melali and Sejati team are known for.
Best for: Design lovers and couples who want a private villa with character – and the service to match.
How many bedrooms: 1 bedroom.
Price: From IDR 4,200,000 per night.
Address: Jl. Buana Sari, Bingin
3. Private Jet Villa
A converted Boeing 737 on the cliffs of Nyang Nyang, with a private pool and full butler service.

If you’re after something truly one of a kind, Private Jet Villa is unlike anything else in Uluwatu (or Bali, for that matter). It’s a decommissioned Boeing 737 turned into a luxury villa, perched 150 metres above the glittering Nyang Nyang Beach.
There’s a glass-front infinity pool facing the ocean, a lounge set into the wing, and luxe, plush interiors that nod to its aviation past (cockpit included!). It’s fully serviced too, with a butler team ready to organise everything from in-villa dining to helicopter arrivals. It’s the opposite of subtle, but that’s the point.
Best for: Bucket-list stays and anyone after a one-of-a-kind villa experience.
How many bedrooms: 2 bedrooms.
Price: From IDR 63,500,000++ per night.
Address: 537V+3FH, Nyang Nyang
4. Bellana Villas by LeyLines
Spacious two-bedroom villas in Balangan with private pools, full service and a sense of calm.

If you’re after space and a true homely feel, Bellana Villas is the villa to book. It’s a collection of private two-bedroom villas that stand tall just minutes from Balangan Beach. And once you step inside, they instantly feel generous and oh-so liveable. Think high ceilings, natural light pouring in, and an open-plan kitchen and dining area that’s gorgeous and functional.
Each villa is designed with a clean, modern finish, but it’s the attention to detail that I love: Bengkirai hardwood, premium surfaces, and fully enclosed, air-conditioned interiors that stay cool all day (a big win in the Bali heat). The layout flows straight out to a large private pool, making it easy to settle in for a few days… (or weeks!).
Service-wise, it’s all taken care of. Daily housekeeping, a responsive on-site team, plus extras like private chefs, in-villa massages and curated Bali experiences if you want them. And while it already feels like a peaceful hideaway, there’s more on the way, because Bellana sits within a new lifestyle precinct in Balangan, with a restaurant launch on the horizon.
Best for: Digital nomads and small groups who want space, privacy and a homely base near Balangan Beach.
How many bedrooms: 2 bedrooms.
Price: From IDR 3,000,000++ per night.
Address: 644J+MP9, Jl Pantai Balangan, Balangan
Ocean View Villas in Uluwatu
5. Uluwatu Surf Villas
Clifftop villas above Suluban Beach with ocean views, yoga spaces and the best surf in town.

Uluwatu is best known for its world-class surf and clifftop views, and this eco-friendly villa resort fully embraces that spirit. Set above Suluban Beach, all of the villas at Uluwatu Surf Villas face the horizon, made from reclaimed teak and ironwood to merge seamlessly with the cliffs and waves below.
Though each villa is different, all of the cliff-front villas have sweeping ocean views, and all are natural and rustic. Most have private pools, and some open onto shared lawns and communal spaces designed for post-surf beers or early morning wave checks.
I love how every time I stay here, the days seem to revolve around the rise and fall of the sun. At sunrise, it’s all about that magical vinyasa flow at the Morning Light yoga studio. Then at sunset, head to Mana Uluwatu – the in-house restaurant – for cold beers, great food and Uluwatu’s community vibe.
Best for: Surfers, yogis and anyone who wants front-row access to Uluwatu’s waves.
How many bedrooms: 1 to 3 bedrooms.
Price: From IDR 6,700,000++ per night.
Address: Jl Pantai Suluban, Uluwatu
6. Uluwatu Estate
Cliffside luxury mansion with ocean views, private chef, spa and world-class amenities.

Uluwatu Estate is an entire mansion with plenty of space, perched high up on the clifftops above Uluwatu’s famous Nyang Nyang Beach. Fringed by lush tropical gardens and an infinity pool with panoramic views of the glittering ocean, the open-plan living areas pay homage to its surroundings.
As Coco Chanel said: “Luxury must be comfortable, otherwise it is not luxury”. So the eclectic interiors and signature handcrafted bath sets make you feel instantly at home, while upmarket amenities and six-star service add a touch of exclusivity. Think must-have tech like Netflix, Apple TV and video games. There’s even a private chef who’ll whip up your meals, as well as a spa and a fitness centre too.
Best for: Large groups looking for a luxury, resort-like stay.
How many bedrooms: 8 and 9 bedrooms.
Price: From IDR 100,000,000++ per night.
Address: Jl Batu Nunggul, Nyang Nyang
7. The Luxe Bali
Clifftop villas above Padang Padang with ocean views and high-end finishes.

The Luxe Bali sits just above Padang Padang Beach, pairing a prime location with polished design details. I like how the villas balance modern Balinese elements (like marble and teak) with open spaces that beautifully frame sweeping views of the ocean.
Honestly, planning your itinerary feels almost optional here because the villa already has everything you need. Between the private pools, a cinema room (my personal favourite), and in-villa dining whenever you feel like staying in, it’s very easy to spend the entire day without leaving. But if you do feel like exploring, Padang Padang Beach is just a short walk away, making this a great balance of comfort and convenience.
Best for: Couples and groups who want clifftop views with easy beach access.
How many bedrooms: 1 to 4 bedrooms.
Price: From IDR 31,100,000++ per night.
Address: Jl. Labuansait, Padang Padang
8. The Surga Villa Estate
Oceanfront paradise and dream wedding venue with direct access to Melasti Beach.

Just as its name suggests (‘surga’ means ‘heaven’), a stay at The Surga Villa Estate is simply heavenly. This luxurious estate is home to two spacious villas: the six-bedroom Villa Surga One and the seven-bedroom Villa Surga Two, each packed to the rafters with six-star amenities.
The estate overlooks the ocean and Melasti Beach, with a glittering, private infinity pool framing the view. You even have direct beach access, so you can stroll down to the sand in the late-afternoon to catch the sunset.
Best for: Large groups and wedding parties in a luxury resort-style oceanfront mansion.
How many bedrooms: 6, 7 and 13 bedrooms.
Price: From IDR 55,000,000++ per night.
Address: Jl Pura Masuka, Melasti
Private Villas In Bingin
9. The Young Villas
Sleek designer villas with private pools, lush gardens and stylish modern interiors.

With a prime address right in the heart of Bingin, The Young Villas is one of the most famous villas in the area. Each villa comes with its own garden, sundeck, private swimming pool and of course, those Insta-famous interiors.
You can choose to stay in the one- two- or three-bedroom villas, or bring the whole crew and rent out the four-bedroom show-stopper. I love that it feels like my own home here, with cosy sunken lounges, fully-equipped kitchens and utmost privacy. And psst – The Young Villas can be found in Canggu too!
Best for: Minimalist living, with Instagrammable interiors in the heart of Uluwatu.
How many bedrooms: 1 to 4 bedrooms.
Price: From IDR 2,500,000++ per night.
Address: Jl. Buana Sari Gg. Pirta, Bingin
10. Casa Sula
Mediterranean-inspired villa with rustic charm, a private pool and serene boho ambience.

Casa Sula is a bohemian villa, just footsteps from Bingin’s chic restaurants, cafes and boutiques. But you won’t want to leave this gorgeous abode. My favourite feature is the outdoor courtyard area. It has a patio and dining table at the centre, beside an aquamarine private pool. It’s the perfect place to entertain, or for evening drinks before heading out to dinner.
Inside, you’ll find a semi-open living and dining room, a fully equipped kitchen and two elegant en-suite bedrooms. For extra peace and quiet, nab the third bedroom, which is located in its own standalone casa.
Best for: Families and small groups who want a Mediterranean-meets-Bali stay.
How many bedrooms: 3 bedrooms.
Price: From IDR 4,800,000++ per night.
Address: Jl Bangbang Metuug, Bingin
11. Lago Villas
Modern Bingin villas with private pools and an easy walk to the beach.

Lago Villas sit right in the heart of Bingin, and they’re so liveable, you’ll never want to check-out. The design is clean and coastal, with open spaces, pale timber and soft linens. I could really see myself settling in here long-term!
Some of the villas come with full private pools, while others have plunge pools or sunny terraces for your morning coffee or sunset drinks. It’s simple, well-designed, and very easy to feel at home. The best part? You’re just a short stroll from Bingin’s cafes, boutiques and restaurants. Comfortable, and exactly where you want to be.
Best for: Couples and friends who want a homely stay in central Bingin.
How many bedrooms: 1 and 2 bedrooms.
Price: From IDR 1,800,000++ per night.
Address: Jl. Jepun Sari, Bingin
12. Melali Bingin
A three-bedroom villa in Bingin with homely charm, lush gardens and great breakfast.

Melali Bingin typically runs as two individual suites and a one-bedroom villa, but you can rent the entire property as a private three-bedroom villa. The moment you check in, the attentiveness goes above and beyond. The team greeted me by name, remembered my coffee order, and they always seemed to appear with a coconut at exactly the right time.
It’s tucked down a leafy lane, so it stays quiet, yet you can walk to Bingin in minutes. The design is warm and tropical, with palm-fringed gardens and an inviting pool that catches the afternoon light. I booked three nights here and ended up extending, because it’s that easy to settle in. And even though Bingin’s best cafes are minutes away, you’ll want to stay for Melali’s breakfast – it’s that good!
Best for: A boutique stay that feels like home with incredibly personalised hospitality.
How many bedrooms: 3 bedrooms.
Price: From IDR 3,200,000++ per night.
Address: Jl Buana Sari, Gg. Pirta, Bingin
13. Bandido Bali
Eco-chic bamboo villas surrounded by gardens, just minutes from Impossible’s Beach

Think bamboo houses are only found in North Bali? Think again, because Bandido Bali is home to not just one, but five bamboo villas, all just minutes away from the entrance to Impossible’s Beach.
Culture and the environment are at the heart of this boutique villa resort, but it doesn’t take itself too seriously. It’s colourful and playful, and you can tell it’s a real passion project of the owners.
My favourite villa has to be the three-bedroom La Pepa, with its lush gardens, fruit-bearing trees and enormous deck fringing the aquamarine pool. Whichever you choose, every villa has plenty of place to kick back and soak it all in.
Best for: Couples and friends who want to be close to the surf but also have a great base to relax and socialise.
How many bedrooms: 1, 3 and 4 bedrooms.
Price: From IDR 2,500,000++ per night.
Address: Jl Pantai Bingin, Gg. Menteg No. 3, Bingin
Hilltop Villas With Sunset Views
14. Summer Ulu
A serene, design-led Uluwatu stay with private chef service and sunset deck views.

Summer Ulu is where you go when you actually want to switch off in Uluwatu. It’s a masterclass in combining Mediterranean aesthetics with a modern twist on Balinese design. Think terrazzo, deep greens and lime-washed textures that cool you down the second you walk in.
My favourite way to spend an afternoon here is moving from the ice bath straight to the sunset deck. The views of the Indian Ocean are sweeping, but it’s the layout that really makes it work. Even with a full group of twelve, you never feel like you’re on top of each other. And having a self-contained studio is a game-changer for that one friend (AKA me) who needs a little extra breathing room.
Best for: Families or groups looking for a design-forward villa with plenty of space to unwind together.
How many bedrooms: 5 or 6 bedrooms.
Price: From IDR 25,500,000++ per night.
Address: Jl Pantai Suluban, Jl. Uluwatu, Pecatu
15. Villa Zyloh
Modern-Mediterranean hilltop escape with luxe whitewashed design and sunset views.

You’ve probably seen this one on Instagram. Villa Zyloh is a luxury collection of three villas, located high up in the hilltops over Bingin. Its breathtaking spaces are inspired by modern-Mediterranean architecture, with high-end amenities, whitewashed saltwater pools, and even a cinema room.
My top pick is the three-bedroom Zyloh Sunset villa. The first floor stuns with its high ceilings, all-white living room and a kitchen that opens out to the outdoor lounge. There are two bedrooms with private en-suites, but here’s my insider tip: head upstairs and nab yourself the master bedroom, complete with its own walk-in wardrobe and a giant bathtub. Come sunset, head out to the balcony for a chocolate fondue by the fire…
Best for: Modern villas for friends and families, with your own sunset lounge and hilltop views.
How many bedrooms: 2, 3 and 5 bedrooms.
Price: From IDR 7,100,000++ per night.
Address: Jl Cemongkak, Bingin, Pecatu
16. Hideaway Villas
A hillside collection of private pool villas, with an in-house spa and secluded atmosphere.

Hideaway Villas is hidden on a leafy lane in the hills of Uluwatu, with a vast collection of 34 private pool villas spread across lush tropical gardens. You can stay in a one- or two-bedroom villa, each with their own private pool and views over the gardens or out towards the hills.
It’s peaceful and feels quite remote, yet Padang Padang, Bingin and Uluwatu are all just a short drive away. And because it’s so hidden, it’s popular with honeymooners for good reason. The villas are private, the service is warm and there’s plenty to do onsite (there’s a spa, restaurant, and even wellness programmes). But it works just as well for small groups who want neighbouring villas, but with their own space.
Best for: Honeymooners and couples who want a villa stay that feels a world away.
How many bedrooms: 1 and 2 bedrooms.
Price: From IDR 2,500,000++ per night.
Address: Jl Bangbang Bendot, Pecatu

FAQs on villas in Uluwatu
Is it worth staying in Uluwatu rather than Seminyak or Canggu?
Absolutely — but it depends what you're after. Uluwatu is less developed than Seminyak or Canggu. There are no shopping malls, and the nightlife is more low-key. What you get instead is world-class surf, dramatic clifftop scenery and stunning hidden beaches. Yes, there are world-class restaurants, bars and boutiques moving in, but Uluwatu still feels more raw and rugged compared to stylish Seminyak and buzzing Canggu.
Do you need a scooter to get around Uluwatu?
Yes — or at the very least, access to a driver. Unlike Seminyak or Canggu, Uluwatu's neighbourhoods are spread out across the Bukit Peninsula and aren't walkable between areas. Within Bingin or Padang Padang you can get around on foot, but getting from Bingin to Suluban, or from Uluwatu to Balangan, requires transport. Scooter rental is cheap and easy (around IDR 70,000–100,000 per day), and most villas can arrange a driver if you'd prefer not to ride. Just factor it into your planning — especially for evening dinners or sunset spots.
How much does it cost to rent a villa in Uluwatu?
Prices vary by size, location, and whether it's the peak holiday season. To give you an idea, a budget villa costs around IDR 1,500,000 to IDR 2,000,000, whereas high-end villas cost upwards of IDR 10,000,000 per night.
How long should you spend in Uluwatu?
We'd say three nights as an absolute minimum, but five nights is the sweet spot. Three nights gives you enough time to explore a couple of beaches, catch a sunset at Single Fin and have a few great meals. Five nights means you can slow down, try different areas of the Bukit, surf a few sessions, and actually feel like you've settled in rather than just passing through. If you're combining Uluwatu with the rest of Bali, we'd suggest splitting your trip between here and Canggu or Ubud for a well-rounded island experience.
Can you visit Uluwatu Temple, and what should you know before you go?
es — Pura Luhur Uluwatu is one of Bali's most important sea temples and absolutely worth a visit. Entry requires a sarong (available to borrow at the gate) and respectful dress. The temple sits on a dramatic cliff edge with sweeping ocean views, and the Kecak fire dance performed here at sunset is one of the most memorable cultural experiences in Bali — book tickets in advance during peak season. Go early evening to catch both the performance and the sunset, and keep a firm grip on your belongings around the monkeys.
Is Uluwatu safe?
Yes, Uluwatu is generally very safe for tourists. The usual common-sense rules apply — don't leave valuables on the beach, be careful on cliff paths after dark, and if you're renting a scooter, wear a helmet and take it slowly on unfamiliar roads. The cliffs can be dangerous if you wander off marked paths, so stick to known lookout spots. Monkeys around Uluwatu Temple are notorious for snatching sunglasses, hats and bags — keep your belongings close when visiting.
When is the best time to visit Uluwatu?
The dry season (April to October) is the most popular time to visit, with lower humidity, less rain and reliable sunshine. It's also peak surf season, with the famous Uluwatu break firing on all cylinders — ideal if you're coming to surf. July and August are the busiest and priciest months. The wet season (November to March) brings more rain and storms, but it's quieter, greener and noticeably cheaper. Many experienced Bali visitors actually prefer the shoulder months of May–June and September–October, when the weather is great and the crowds are thinner.
How far is Uluwatu from the airport?
Ngurah Rai International Airport is around 45 minutes from most parts of Uluwatu, depending on traffic and exactly where you're staying. Balangan is the closest (around 25–30 minutes), while Nyang Nyang and the more remote clifftop areas can take closer to 45 minutes. Pre-book your airport transfer through your villa if possible — it's usually reliable, reasonably priced and saves the hassle of negotiating with drivers on arrival.
