The Best Speakeasies & Cocktail Bars in Ubud
1. Whisper Cove
Ubud’s hidden speakeasy for inventive cocktails, velvet corners and late-night date vibes.

Blink and you’ll miss it. Whisper Cove sits behind an unmarked staircase off Monkey Forest, but trust me, it’s worth hunting down. Step inside and it feels like you’ve wandered into a film set: soft velvet banquettes, candlelight flickering off dark timber, and bartenders who really care about what’s in your glass.
It feels mystical and mysterious, but the real magic here is the cocktails. The Bibir Manado is a fiery knockout, using smoky salted-butter mezcal, creamy corn and tropical fruit, with just enough chilli to heat it up. The Uno Card is another standout: crisp green apple, oolong tea and super smooth whiskey. Add crispy taro chips and chocolate truffles to the mix, and you’ve got yourself an awesome night out in Ubud.
Why go: A real-deal speakeasy where every cocktail has personality.
Favourite cocktails: Bibir Manado, Uno Card.
Best for: Date nights, cocktail lovers and post-dinner drinks.
Vibe: Low-lit, sultry, and intimate.

2. Nautilus Ubud
A sleek seafood restaurant and bar pairing ocean-fresh plates with nautical-themed cocktails.

I first came to Nautilus Ubud for the seafood (the oysters and butterfish are always pristine), but the cocktails somehow stole the show. This seafood-focused restaurant and bar has brought a unique cocktail concept to Ubud, where every drink follows the map of Captain Salt’s voyage.
Bold flavours meet precise execution here. There’s the deep, smoky Kraken, the tropical Banana, and the aromatic Pandan cocktail. Every sip is carefully balanced, but without any unnecessary twists — just thoughtful craftsmanship that lets the ingredients shine. Arrive early to explore the cocktail map at the bar, then transition to dinner with a crisp Chardonnay from the extensive wine selection.
Why go: Elegant seafood dining and cocktails that bring a nautical voyage to life.
Favourite cocktails: Kraken, Banana, Pandan.
Best for: Seafood dinners and special occasions.
Vibe: Polished yet relaxed, softly lit with a blue-gold glow.

3. Ibu Susu
A Balinese-owned cocktail bar blending Melbourne mixology with local flair.

Proudly Balinese owned and run, Ibu Susu is one of my all-time favourite cocktail bars in Ubud. It might be small in size, but it’s brimming with personality, warmth and a mix of locals and travellers every night. The energy here comes from Bali-born owner and head mixologist Ketut, who brings years of Melbourne bar experience and a deep love of local ingredients to every pour.
Take a seat at the bar and you’ll see what makes this place special. Ketut and his team mix with precision and genuine hospitality. The drinks list is a creative mix of East and West, from the Ubud Old Fashioned and Pandan Colada, to the Pomelo Smoked Negroni. My latest obsession, though, is the Marigold. It’s a floral and fruity ode to its namesake flower, with gin, passionfruit liqueur, fermented strawberry, Prosecco and house-made marigold soda. Somehow, it tastes even better than it sounds.
You won’t want to skip the food either. The pork belly steamed buns, red snapper carpaccio and drunken chicken are made for sharing, served beautifully beneath vaulted ceilings and a buzzing open kitchen.
Why go: Balinese-owned, and home to some of Ubud’s best cocktails.
Favourite cocktails: Marigold, Ubud Old Fashioned, Pandan Colada, Pomelo Smoked Negroni.
Best for: Date nights, solo bar hangs, locals in the know.
Vibe: Warm, intimate and effortlessly cool. Small space, big energy.

4. Night Rooster
Ubud’s avant-garde cocktail bar mixing Bali’s wild botanicals and folklore.

Pull up a pew at this Jalan Goutama speakeasy and settle in for something very special. Night Rooster is a cool, late-night bar from the Locavore NXT team, and it’s where resident alchemist Raka turns Bali’s wild botanicals and Indonesian folklore into beautifully balanced drinks.
It’s intimate and low-lit with an intimate hum – perfect for a lingering conversation or a clever nightcap. You’ll find some of the best cocktails in Bali here, so it’s no surprise it once landed a spot on Asia’s 50 Best Bars list.
Why go: Experimental cocktails with a strong sense of place and story.
Favourite cocktails: Monkey Business, White Lady, Hanky Panky.
Best for: World-class cocktails, date nights, design-led drinkers.

5. Pinstripe Bar
Colonial elegance and award-winning cocktails inside Ubud’s Viceroy Bali.

For an extra special tipple, head to the opulent and Colonial-style Pinstripe Bar at Apéritif restaurant. When I’m in the mood for old-world glamour, I prop up the mahogany bar here and sip on upmarket cocktails inspired by the magic of the 1930s. In fact, I’d go as far to say it’s one of the most stylish bars in Bali.
It’s not just the interiors that’ll blow you away either. The award-winning mixologist, Panji Wisrawan (Campari Bartender Competition champion) masterfully shakes and stirs each cocktail with finesse and in-house infusions. The aperitifs are unparalleled (the Papaya Leaf Amaro is on another level!), as are the unique house cocktails. My all-time favourite is The Novelist – a fruity and spicy combo of tequila and Mezcal, with passionfruit and avocado oil.
Why go: Award-winning bartending, refined interiors, polished service.
Favourite cocktails: Papaya Leaf Amaro, The Novelist.
Best for: Dress-up dates, special occasions, serious sippers.
Vibe: Colonial-chic, elegant, grown-up.

6. Honey & Smoke
Chef Will Meyrick’s speakeasy-grillery serving cocktails kissed by smoke and fire.

Part speakeasy, part grill, Honey & Smoke is the brainchild of award-winning chef Will Meyrick. But it’s not just the food that caught my attention here. Walk past the smouldering wood fire and head upstairs to the 1920s-style bar inspired by Wes Anderson’s eccentric world.
The cocktails echo the kitchen’s flame and smoke: the Norihana Smoke appears in a perfumed plume, while Kyoto Mint’s Berry mixes raspberry gin, kalamansi, strawberry and pomegranate. Even the Espresso Martini goes local with Nusantara Cold Brew. Add a few small plates and you’ve got the perfect nightcap session.
Why go: Chef-led venue where smoke and fire lead the way.
Favourite cocktails: Norihana Smoke, Kyoto Mint’s Berry, Espresso Martini (Nusantara).
Best for: Dinner then drinks, date nights, design lovers.

7. Boliche Bar
Retro beats and modern mixology served up high, located in Ubud’s original nightlife haunt.

Follow the red arrow from and you’ll find Boliche Bar – a retro hideaway with a late-night pulse. It’s the hidden bar within the popular Cantina Rooftop restaurant, and it’s actually in the original location of Ubud’s first ever bar from the 70s. Boliche definitely seems to be keeping this legacy alive, with creative cocktails, a live DJ and a lively lounge crowd. It’s my go-to whenever I want a proper after-hours scene with a little throwback charm.
Why go: Hidden den energy with DJs and playful signatures.
Favourite cocktails: Cafecito, Negroni, Markissa Sour.
Best for: Night owls, music lovers, post-dinner drinks.
Vibe: Retro, moody, upbeat.

8. Ambar Ubud Bar
Sky-high cocktails and sunset views at Mandapa, A Ritz-Carlton Reserve.

You’ll always remember your first time stepping into Ambar Ubud Bar. It quite literally took my breath away, with sweeping, sky-high views over Ubud’s verdant river valley. This stunning bar is the signature sunset destination at Mandapa, A Ritz-Carlton Reserve, and true to its name (Ambar means ‘sky’) it sits high above the treetops atop the valley verge.
You get a perfect view of the jungle sunset from any of the lounges, and while you sip your way through the expertly curated nature-inspired cocktails, you can graze on pass-around canapés and Japanese-inspired bites. For me, I love the delicate sushi rolls and fine sashimi. My top tip: come for a sunset cocktail, then make your way to Mandapa’s signature bamboo restaurant, Kubu, for a romantic dinner date after dark.
Why go: Sky-high setting with refined, nature-led cocktails.
Favourite cocktails: Yuzu Negroni, Cempaka Fizz, Forest.
Best for: Sunsets, proposals, polished date nights.
Vibe: Serene, resort-smart, jazz lounge.
Where: Jl Kedewatan, Banjar Kedewatan, Ubud
Opening hours: Daily 2pm–11pm
9. Jati Bar
House-aged cocktails with jungle views at Four Seasons Bali Resort at Sayan.

Walk across the Insta-famous suspension bridge at Four Seasons Resort at Sayan, then wind down the floating wooden staircase. You’ll arrive at Jati Bar, totally open to the dense jungle out yonder. It’s here where million-dollar and nods to local culture are paired with house-aged cocktails.
The barrel-aged cocktails use locally-sourced wood and artisan terracotta casks to slow-cook and house-infuse spirits, honouring the traditional ways of ageing. Then, locally-sourced produce (most of which is grown within the in-house garden) is added to each cocktail.
The Gin Martini undergoes a 42-day ageing process, while the Hanky Panky revives the now-forgotten tradition of glass-ageing, made with gin, Fernet Branca and sweet vermouth. And if you’re not into aged cocktails, you’ll also find the classics, plus whiskey, wines, digestifs and mocktails.
Why go: Aged classics done right, with million-dollar jungle views.
Favourite cocktails: 42-day Gin Martini, glass-aged Hanky Panky.
Best for: Cocktail connoisseurs, romantic sunsets, and a refined aperitif hour.
Where: Jl Raya Sayan, Sayan, Ubud (set within Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan)
Opening hours: Daily from 12pm.
10. Copper Kitchen, Bar & Rooftop
Rooftop bar meets earth-to-table cocktails at this romantic venue from Bisma Eight.

Part of the gorgeous Bisma Eight (one of our favourite Boutique hotels in Bali), Copper Ubud has long been loved for its fantastic ‘earth-to-table’ cuisine. Well, the bar mirrors the kitchen’s ethos, with seasonal, garden-fresh builds and a rooftop setting that feels very Ubud. It’s leafy, low-key and quietly romantic. I like it for a lingering sunset that often drifts into dinner.
Why go: Seasonal, ingredient-led cocktails in a leafy rooftop setting.
Favourite cocktails: Toblerone Martini, Oak-Barrel Aged Manhattan, Bisma Sling.
Best for: Rooftop sunsets, mellow dates, unhurried evenings.

11. The Blue Door
A buzzing Monkey Forest bar and club combo, with sports, live bands and cocktails.

You’ll hear The Blue Door before you even see it, It’s one of Ubud’s most popular bars, with a raucous beer garden out front. For those all-important game days, the beer garden is lined with HD sports screens, while live bands will keep the vibes alive long after the final whistle.
Then, later in the evening, head to the back and step through the neon blue doors. You’ll find a hidden bar and nightclub with Alice in Wonderland vibes, sultry sofas and speakeasy cocktails. It’s easily one of Ubud’s most happening bars, where you can sip on a strong Negroni, dance to live DJs, or simply prop up the bar with a city-inspired cocktail.
Why go: It’s a sports bar by day, and a sultry nightclub by night.

12. No Más
A funky live music bar pouring stiff drinks and good times in downtown Ubud.

Toting “easy food, stiff drinks, failed marriages and bad app ideas”, No Más is the downtown bar that doesn’t take itself too seriously. It’s a loud, unpretentious joint where rock, salsa and hip-hop happily co-exist, and Bowie, Santana and Biggie are always on rotation.
You won’t need heels or collared shirts here, just your dancing shoes and an open bar tab. Expect free-pours, loud music and an almost never-ending happy hour. The drinks are strong and simple, made by one of the warmest bar crews in Ubud. They’ll shake, stir and pour you something dangerously good, and possibly talk you into another round.
Why go: Live bands most nights and a crowd that gets wild.
Favourite cocktails: Bourbon Seduction, Sayan Sunrise.
Best for: Loud nights, live music, and spontaneous dancing.

A list of bars in Ubud wouldn’t be complete without this old classic. CP Lounge is not a fancy cocktail bar with infusions and foams. But it is open all day for drinking and partying. You’ll find cheap eats and drinks here, plus a big swimming pool, plenty of pool tables and cocktail deals.
It’s situated next to the central football field near downtown Ubud, and it’s one of the only places in town where you can dance the day and night away into the wee hours, if that’s what you’re after. You can even catch Balinese dance performances, live bands, karaoke nights and Latin dancing too.

15. Bacari
A refined wine and cocktail bar serving tapas and top-tier wines-by-the-glass.

So much more than just a wine bar, Bacari is a neighbourhood hangout where Ubud’s oenophiles and cocktail lovers quietly converge. This intimate 22-seater keeps things elegant and unfussy, with a stellar list of 20 wines by the glass (all poured using the state-of-the-art Coravin system) alongside clever cocktails and beautifully balanced sharing plates.
The wine list is a dream: varietals and vintages from both the Old World and New. I like to start with a crisp Gavi di Gavi alongside the burrata on sourdough, then move to a silky Barolo with the pan-grilled halloumi. And if you prefer cocktails, Bacari holds its own: the classic Negroni is my forever go-to, while the Revolver (a cold-brew coffee and bourbon number) is the perfect nightcap.
Why go: An intimate wine bar with standout wines-by-the-glass plus great cocktails and share plates.

There are 25 varieties of wine to choose from, which you can work your way through while tucking into charcuterie platters from Bali Grazing Boards. Think artisan cheeses, cured meats, dips, olives and fresh breads. As for the wine flight, you’ll get to try four different pours matched with cheese and chocolate. It’s a simple but brilliant touch.

17. Hujan Locale
An Indonesian dining institution with jazz, nostalgia and beautifully crafted cocktails.

Downstairs at Hujan Locale feels like stepping back in time. This sleek bar and restaurant is designed to capture the elegance of a bygone Batavian cafe. It’s dimly lit with lazy jazz spilling out of the speakers, while the food is courtesy of the famed Chef Will Meyrick. Hujan Locale is widely recognised as one of Bali’s best Indonesian restaurants, but the bar quietly holds its own.
The cocktail list draws on Southeast Asian fruits and spices (like tamarind, kaffir lime and galangal), all mixed into contemporary classics that still feel familiar. You can even order a drink from the vintage cocktail cart, where the bartender wheels over and shakes it right in front of you.
Why go: It’s an ode to local culture with a refined touch, courtesy of famed Chef Will Meyrick.

18. Tipple Room by Mozaic
Fine-dining mixology with local ingredients inside Mozaic Ubud.

Hidden inside Mozaic Restaurant, the Tipple Room is Ubud’s answer to fine-dining mixology. It’s a moody, beautifully designed space where the drinks are treated with the same reverence as the food. Each cocktail celebrates Bali’s seasonal produce (like dragon fruit, jambu air, pandan), and crafted with precision by a team that clearly loves their work.
I’d recommend the Sleeping Dragon, which layers smoky bourbon with coffee and bright dragon fruit, or the Jungle Bird, which balances rum, pineapple and pandan with tropical finesse. You can also browse the walk-in wine cellar (it’s one of Ubud’s most impressive collections), with bottles from around the globe. It’s the perfect place to start (or finish) a tasting menu at Mozaic, or simply to unwind with a serious drink in good company.
Why go: Refined cocktails in a fine-dining setting.

19. Kyoka Japanese Kitchen
Japanese fusion dining meets bold, colourful cocktails in Ubud.

Kyoka is the sister restaurant to Ubud favourite Ibu Susu, which means you’ll often find owner Ketut behind the bar, shaking cocktails and greeting regulars like old friends. It’s easily one of the most hospitable bars in Ubud, where the service is warm and always genuine.
The food touches on homestyle modern Japanese, but it’s the drinks that tie it all together. I love the Natsu Groni, a Japanese riff on the classic Negroni, and the Sea Side, made with nori-infused tequila. There’s also a smart list of sake and Japanese whiskies for those who want to go deeper into the flavours of Japan.
Why go: Kyoto-inspired food and cocktails with Balinese soul.
