Review: Wine Fiesta 2013
So we walked away from Wine Fiesta 2013 a little too happy with all the vino consumed, but in our defence, there are more than 60 winemakers and 250 labels from all over the world – we’d like to see you say no to that!
We kicked off the evening with at the cheese table – the blue cheese with truffled honey is beyond awesome, even non-blue cheese fans will fall in love it. We’re a little bit embarrassed to say that we went back for seconds (or maybe fourths)…
You can’t really have full-flavoured wine without full-flavoured food so we were really glad that the delish tapas by the award-winning chefs at Fullerton Hotel complemented the wines went down well – try the pork belly with butternut squash puree, it’s undeniably fantastic (we scarfed down too many to count)!
We got chummy with Dan Sims, an award-winning sommelier, at a master class – they’re themed by country (like Italy, France, and Australia) – and we learned a lot about signature wines from various wine-producing regions. Even rookies will enjoy this one – we assure you there won’t be any yawns here!
The layout is also really easy and comprehensive. The different pavilions are hosts to different countries, so if you’re particularly inclined to say, french vin ordinaire, just make a beeline for their winemakers.
You know Wine Fiesta is an event not to be missed when there’s a queue at the wine collection point (yes, we succumbed to getting a bottle of excellent moscato), and people come to the event, even if they have to tote the tinies!
