A Singapore-exclusive room dedicated to Christian Dior

Hot on the heels of the exhibition’s New York run, the Singapore edition debuts a new room that’s dedicated entirely to Christian Dior himself. The space showcases some of his first designs, offering a rare glimpse into how the foundations of Dior came about. Venturing in felt like stepping into his atelier, with original sketches, dressmaking notes, and stunning displays of his creations – like the silk faille Opéra Bouffe dress that stole the show.
Captivating designs inspired by Asia
One of the most compelling parts of UBS House of Craft x Dior’s Singapore debut is its showcase of its masterpieces that were inspired by the craft and designs of the region. And yes, that includes designs inspired by Singapore.

Spot the sketches by Christian Dior himself that reference Singapore by name, as well as photographs of his striking “Singapour dress” and “Singapour ensemble” that made appearances in his haute couture collections in the 50s, sporting the classic nipped-in waist and dramatic silhouette that was characteristic of Dior’s “New Look”.

Speaking of which, is there a more iconic fan of an oriental design moment than John Galliano? As far as Dior’s lineup of creative directors are concerned, we doubt it. From his sketches, haute couture, and ready-to-wear designs, we loved how this exhibition offers an intricate look into his designs that drew inspiration from Eastern motifs and silhouettes – resulting in captivating creations that mesmerise till this day. Oh, and keep your eyes peeled for the display of one of John Galliano’s theatrical crowns, a sparkling headpiece that’ll make the Louvre robbers jealous.
Inside the rooms that trace Dior’s evolution
Beyond the legendary designs of Christian Dior and John Galliano, the other rooms feature a curated look into the legacy of other creative directors, with archival fashion pieces showcased alongside fashion photographer Brigitte Niedermair’s works.

From Gianfranco Ferré’s architectural silhouettes and famed Lady Dior bag; to Maria Grazia Chiuri’s take on blending feminist empowerment with couture; to Raf Simons’ futuristic and modern interpretations of Dior’s heritage, we’d suffice to say that there were plenty of memorable moments to marvel at. There was also a special tribute to Kim Jones, who previously served as Dior’s menswear artistic director.
Craft demonstrations that bring couture to life

If you’ve ever wondered how the artisans behind a couture house worked, this exhibition offers the chance to watch them live. The master artisans at the Dior Atelier demonstrations showed us the art of stitching, draping, and the savoir-faire behind Dior’s iconic creations. Check the UBS House of Craft x Dior website for details on the session timings.
We found ourselves lingering longer than expected at this breathtaking exhibition. If you’re curious about how couture has evolved through the decades and its ties to the region, we’d recommend popping by for a peek.
