In danger of overspending this festive season? Here’s how Syfe can help.
The CNY festivities are upon us, which means red packets and food galore! However, a Syfe study found that seven in 10 people wish to invest in 2022, but 56% end up overspending during the festive season. Don’t let that be you with these easy tips, inspired by Dr Annabelle Chow, one of Singapore’s top clinical psychologists. Syfe worked with her to co-develop five tips to manage festive spending…
1. Start with baby steps
Now that a new year is upon us, it’s the perfect time to assess your financial habits and set new goals. The thought of starting doesn’t have to be daunting! Aim for small yet achievable goals, and set yourself up for success by slowly including them into your daily routine. As Dr Annabelle Chow puts it, don’t forget to celebrate the small wins!
2. Assess the reasons behind your spending
Define your values and goals: maybe it’s saving up for a wedding, buying a new home, or taking a long trip to Europe. Next, work towards achieving the monetary comfort needed for them. Align your gifting accordingly, whether you’re thinking of surprising a friend for the festive season or their birthday. For instance, if you’re looking at spending quality time with your loved ones, why not spend on experiences like staycations?
3. Think before you act
Impulsive shopping is common during this time of year – and you’re not alone. Dr Chow encourages the practice of the STOP exercise: “Stop whatever you’re doing, Take a breath and anchor yourself, Observe and notice what’s happening inside and around you, notice the urge to purchase and acknowledge it, and finally, Proceed effectively by reminding yourself of the list of priorities, and whether this aligns with your values”. This might sound easier than it actually is, but you’ve got this!
4. Earn while you sleep
Passive income is your best friend. Some examples of passive income sources include investing in Singapore REITs, which are representative of 12% of Singapore’s whole equity market by market cap. If you’d like to invest in REITs, consider Syfe REIT+, a diversified REIT portfolio that holds 20 of Singapore’s biggest REITs.
5. Let your money work for you
The best gift you can give yourself is the ability to grow your money. Syfe makes investing easy for anyone with a wide range of ready-made, fully-managed investment portfolios. There’s no minimum investment, no lock-ins, and you’ll get support from a team of wealth experts.
Want to take it further by investing in individual stocks? Syfe has just launched Syfe Trade, a new brokerage service. Step into the shoes of a Wall Street trader, and easily buy and sell US stocks and ETFs. Be enticed by competitive fees, fractional trading, a user-friendly platform, and more.
What’s in store? Believe it or not, but all Syfe Trade customers will be given five free trades each month from now to 31 March 2022. This continues with two free trades every month even after the promotional period.
Outside the free trade allowance, enjoy a flat fee of US$0.99 per trade – which is one of the lowest in the market for US stocks! After the promotional period ends, the fee becomes US$1.49 per trade, which is still one of the most affordable in Singapore.
And yes, there’s no inactivity fee, no withdrawal fee or limits, no platform fee, and no fees for any corporate dealings or dividend handlings. You can start fractional trading with just US$1.
To celebrate its launch, Syfe Trade is also offering all new customers more than $200 in cash credits. Use this moolah to buy any stock or ETF via Syfe Trade (T&Cs apply).
You can earn $30 cash credits for each of these actions: open a Syfe Trade account and fund it with a minimum of $1,000; make your first trade; and refer your friends to Syfe Trade.
