From robust coffee to decadent desserts, these new food haunts and bustling spots in Republic Plaza will chase away the office blues.
Ask us if we prefer WFH or office days, and we’ll unabashedly say the former. Avoiding the dreadful commute, snoozing till 10 minutes before work starts, and skipping the hassle of getting ready… we could go on forever. If this sounds like you, how about adding some shine to your office days with new gems in the CBD? Five new food haunts and bustling spots have recently set up shop at Republic Plaza, making them the perfect pit stops for quick munches or well-deserved respites. From savoury snacks to sweet treats, here’s where to bookmark!
1. #thebackyardbakers: Chocolatey goodness and savoury creations
This original creation went viral in 2020 and still remains the talk of the brownie scene today. Just take one bite and you’ll understand why! Baked to perfection, these chunky brownie squares ($7.50 each) come in a variety of tempting flavours. Try fan favourites like the signature molten lava dark chocolate, walnut with sea salt flakes, peanut butter with Himalayan pink salt, or dark chocolate and sea salt caramel. But fair warning: it may be tough to pick just one.

Not a brownie fan? No worries, stop by for the savoury sourdough instead. With seven mouth-watering options to choose from, each slice comes loaded with smashed Aussie avocados, roasted tomatoes and an onsen egg. Spice up your lunch breaks with the bold mala smoked salmon sourdough (it’s a seasonal exclusive item!), or opt for the non-spicy smoked salmon, original chicken and herbivore versions that are equally satisfying.

2. Hong Lim Curry Puff: Glorious puffs served piping hot
A golden, flaky pastry filled with tender chicken chunks, creamy potatoes and perfectly cooked eggs – yes, we’re talking about the oh-so-irresistible curry puff. CBD folks, you can now satisfy your cravings at Hong Lim Curry Puff’s new outlet at Republic Plaza! This renowned Singaporean brand has been serving these crispy goodness since 1952 (which has earned it the Michelin Bib Gourmand) so you know these folks mean business.

Affordably priced at $2.20, each puff is thoughtfully crafted using the freshest ingredients. You can’t go wrong with the best-selling chicken potato with egg curry puff, or the vegan-friendly potato curry version that packs a satisfying flavour punch. Feeling adventurous? Go for the sardine potato puff and spicy otah paste puff, or satisfy your sweet tooth with the crispy yam paste puff.

3. Janice Wong: A chocolate lover’s dream come true
Chocolate aficionados, great news: you can now easily satisfy your cravings at Janice Wong’s new retail store at Republic Plaza. Step into a world of indulgence as every corner of the shop showcases the exquisite creations of acclaimed pastry chef Janice Wong.
Trust us when we say the chocolate pralines are (almost) too pretty to eat. Available in boxes of five, nine, 16 or 25 (from $26), each features a pre-packed selection of flavours so you’ll be in for a delightful surprise. Standout flavours to expect include Singapore-inspired creations like gula melaka pandan and chilli padi, as well as vegan options such as praline poprocks and pistachio.

Or, take home one of the show-stopping cakes (from $68) that are akin to edible works of art. Pick your fancy from the gula melaka pandan pistachio cake that reminds us of a soft, fluffy cloud; the eye-catching mango yuzu cake in a vibrant yellow; and the decadent Pure Imagination chocolate caramel pecan cake. Every creation will be a feast for the eyes.

4. Joe & Dough: Irresistible bakes paired with a strong cuppa
Battling the post-lunch Zs? How about a strong cup of joe to perk you right up? Make haste to Joe & Dough’s new store at Republic Plaza for your well-deserved caffeine boost. These folks offer a unique in-house coffee blend and work with a local coffee roaster to ensure that their coffee beans are always fresh. Take a sip of the signature d.r. Joe (from $6.30) to savour a well-balanced and smooth cuppa, sans any bitterness.

Besides specialty coffee, the homegrown brand also dishes out handcrafted artisanal bakes like muffins, croissants, tarts and cakes. If you only have room for one, we recommend the signature gula melaka pandan cake ($7.30). An ode to Singapore’s 49th birthday, this cake that draws inspiration from local flairs and flavours still remains popular among customers. Sink your teeth into a fragrant pandan-infused butter cake, generously slathered with gula melaka and topped with desiccated coconut. A truly nostalgic taste, if you ask us!
