Adrenaline junkie or not – take a ride (or a few) back to your childhood at this nostalgic funfair.
Apart from the rare pasar malams that grace our neighbourhoods, old-school, adult-sized rides are hard to come by, which is why we not-so-secretly can’t get enough of Marina Bay Carnival, happening right now until April!
What better way to unleash your inner child than going back to your favourite funfair highlights at Singapore’s largest carnival? We indulged in a second visit to create this guide – so you can head straight to the good stuff…
Calling thrill seekers aboard…
A carnival’s not a carnival without heart-stopping, spine-tingling rides – from Europe, no less – and Marina Bay Carnival delivers the goods. Swing 55 metres high and back down with the Mach 5 – essentially a giant hammer, plunge into choppy waters with the Jungle River, or sail the seas with quintessential carnival viking ride Das Fun Schiff. Which one made us think we were about to faint? You’ll have to find out for yourself…
And while this isn’t as much of an adrenaline boost, we’ve got a serious soft spot for the carousel, Gallopers. Of course, it’s a quintessential carnival photo-op – those twinkling lights, the vintage carousel horses – you get the picture.
Get into the games…
Continue your maritime adventure by trying your luck at Catch a Fish – there’s over a million prizes for everyone, and all you need to do is fish them, or feed the rumbly tummy of a hungry sailor at Big Mouth.
If you’re looking to impress your date with your mad skills, why not go for the classic Ring Toss and grab a plushie or two for your beau? (Hint: the best way to win the toss is to minimise the bounce, so throw your rings lightly!)
Food and more fun stuff…
Old school, new cool: as with the rest of the carnival, gastronomia is also best served with a side of nostalgia. Expect satay, durian desserts and muah chee, paired with a little bit of ambient magic from local bands. And if the rides still aren’t enough for you to let off steam, these mass workouts would do it for you.
Tips!
Spanning over the Bayfront Event Space and the Promontory, this massive carnival is bound to pack a crowd on weekends. Our hot tip? Get your Marina Bay Carnival token card online first (admission is free; rides and games are on a pay-per-play basis). Or even better – beat the queue with express passes.
The Marina Bay Carnival runs until 1 April 2018, and is open from 4 to 11pm daily.
