Recently in town for Digital Fashion Week 2015, CATALOG chats with the up-and-coming model and TV presenter
Among the attendees at this year’s Digital Fashion Week in Singapore was one of London’s it-girls, Billie JD Porter. The affable model and personality has chalked up a pretty stellar portfolio in the media industry as a TV presenter and director of a few celebrated documentaries.
Below, CATALOG snags a quick chat with Billie, where she shares her style credo and how she juggles it all.
Hi Billie, what’s like being in Singapore?
It’s my first time Singapore here and I’m so happy to be here. I really, really love it. I managed to visit Gardens By The Bay and Sentosa and they were both beautiful. I wish I were here longer so that I can eat all the food people have been telling me about!
With so many roles to play — writer, TV presenter and model, how do you balance everything all at once?
I would never feel like I could say it’s difficult because it’s the best job in the world. I’m not the most organised person with managing time, but I get to travel the world and couldn’t be happier to work on so many things. Sometimes, it’s a bit overwhelming and being a freelancer, there’s no regularity in the income, but you just always make it work. And I think seeing the world and meeting interesting people are so much more important than something material.
What kind of style appeals to you the most?
Normally I’m quite scruffy or grungy, so for me to be wearing this means that I really, really like it. I usually just go for comfort, or I tend to wear what’s closest to my bed unless I’ve got an event to go to. I think that’s a good method to dress by [laughs].
