A firsthand look at Four Points by Sheraton Auckland – comfy rooms, rooftop bars, and brewtastic fun.
Ah, Auckland. City of Sails, gateway to endless adventures, and the backdrop for my recent stay at Four Points by Sheraton Auckland. I checked in for a few nights to see if this four-star hotel would deliver on comfort, style, and convenience. Spoiler alert: it did, with a few delightful surprises along the way.
Perched in the heart of the Auckland Arts Precinct, with Queen Street’s shopping, dining, and harbour views just steps away, it’s a great base for exploring the city. While location is everything, this hotel charms in other ways – from heritage details to thoughtful sustainable touches.

First impressions: Heritage charm meets modern design

Housed in a former office building (converted in 2018) with a heritage-protected facade – once a pub, no less – it blends clean, modern design with nods to Auckland’s history. The lobby’s linear layout leads you past a cosy seating area with local memorabilia, honeycomb light fixtures (felt right at home), and striking artwork, including a Maui totem honouring Māori culture. Even the carpets tell a story – they’re made from recycled fishing nets, a quiet nod to sustainability that runs throughout the property.
The room: Floor-to-ceiling Sky Tower views and a bed you won’t want to leave

I stayed in a Corner City View Room on the 16th floor. Waking up to the Sky Tower framed in my floor-to-ceiling windows was one of those “wow, I’m in Auckland” moments. The space was bright, modern, and functional, with a comfy Sleepyhead Premium bed, a Chromecast-enabled TV (hello, Netflix binge), and a work desk if you need to catch up on emails.
While there’s no bottled water in the room, each floor has a filtered water station that’s great for the planet and my hydration goals. There’s also a humble 24-hour fitness centre. My only tiny gripes? The water pressure in the shower was a little lower than I’d like, and it took a hot second to figure out the air-conditioning and heater controls. Also, there’s no pool. But since I visited in winter, I didn’t miss it. And if you’re the type that doesn’t like to chill in the hotel room, there’s plenty to do outside.
Food and drink: From craft beer tastings to rooftop gin cocktails with a view

Breakfast at Four Points by Sheraton Auckland kicks off at The Queen’s Head, a bright, spacious restaurant with a farm-to-table menu and a strong “support local” ethos. It focuses on fresh produce sourced from nearby farms, dishes made with organic ingredients, and flavours that taste like Auckland on a plate. During dinner, we even had a cooking session with Food and Beverage Manager Aniket Das, where we prepared Kokoda (Fijian ceviche). Even though it was a simple task of mixing items in a bowl, it was quite insightful as Chef shared stories of how they select different local vendors according to the seasons and what’s available at the moment.
The real star of the show

Hands down, it’s the Best Brews programme. This Sheraton signature celebrates local craft beers, and at Four Points Auckland, you can enjoy them at the outdoor bar with the Sky Tower practically winking at you in the background.
On my first day, I joined a special beer tasting hosted by Luke Nicholas, founder of Epic Brewing and multi-award-winning head brewer. Epic Brewing is a New Zealand icon known for pushing flavour boundaries and creating beers with real personality. My standout sip? The Epic ‘Portamarillo’ Porter – rebrewed 11 years after its original Dogfish Head collab. It’s smoky and rich with ripe tamarillo undertones.
I also met Logan Richmond from Sawmill Brewery, a Matakana-based independent B Corp brewery. Their Pilsner was irresistible: crisp, hoppy, and refreshingly balanced, and it’s clearly a crowd favourite.
As if that’s not enough beer magic, my stay coincided with the hotel’s first-ever World Beer Day celebration. Open to the public, the restaurant transformed into a lively beer hall, with booths of local brewers pouring their best creations, and the vibe of a cool friend’s party (if that friend also happened to have an impeccable beer list).
All you had to do was buy tokens, sample to your heart’s content, and take your favourites home. There were even games and laughs. Though it was a one-day event that has ended, there are talks of making next year’s event bigger – maybe even spilling the festivities right out onto Queen Street for a full-blown beer festival.
Let’s not forget the pièce de résistance

Perched on the 20th floor, The Churchill is the hotel’s crown jewel and Auckland’s highest rooftop bar. Specialising in gin (a jaw-dropping 160 varieties) and champagne, it’s a glamorous nod to the roaring 1920s drinking scene. Not a gin lover? No worries! Just wave over the champagne trolley and let Sir Winston Churchill’s favourite Pol Roger do the talking. Add sweeping panoramic views of the city, and you’ve got one of the chicest spots to toast your Auckland adventures.
I went for the Modern Medicine, a playful riff on the Penicillin cocktail with cachaça, spiced cognac, citra hops, rewarewa honey, lemon, and ginger. Then there was the Avro Lancaster, a bright mix of 1919 Yuzu Gin, 144 Islands Vermouth #3, prosecco, lime, and a whisper of rose sugar – floral, zesty, and just the right amount of fancy.
The verdict
Four Points by Sheraton Auckland isn’t trying to be flashy. It’s comfortable, convenient, and quietly charming. What stood out most? The staff. Attentive without being intrusive, they made my stay feel personal. Whether you’re in town for work or play, this centrally located gem delivers a stay that’s down-to-earth and memorable. With heritage, sustainability, and a cold craft beer waiting at the bar, what more can you ask for?
