How long did you think it took Castlery and Tan France to conceptualise the collection? Six months? Nope! The two actually spent almost two years on the inaugural furniture collection.
Tan first came across Castlery through targeted Instagram ads. When the brand reached out for a potential partnership – promising that Tan could “do what [he] wants to do” rather than simply slapping his name on a collection (aka “white label”) – the media personality said yes.
The multi-hyphenate was hands-on throughout the process, even flying to Singapore to review materials for the collection. The result is a designer collection that remains true to Tan’s vision while not straying from what Castlery is known for. A win-win, if you will. Tan also said he wanted the collection to be timeless rather than chase trends, with pieces designed to stay in homes for years without making anyone think, “Oh, this piece is so dated.”
Among the 18 pieces in the Castlery x Tan France collection, Tan picked the Anika table lamp ($249) as his favourite – and I could see why. Available in three colours (jade, orange, and tan), this handblown glass lamp feels more like a piece of art than your average table lamp. It’s just as striking switched off as it is when illuminated, and it was the first thing that caught my eye during the preview. Honestly, I can totally picture it in my room.
Another item that had me frothing at the mouth was the Rayan mirror (from $499). Check out the scalloped detailing! The design proudly reflects Tan’s Pakistani heritage and might even be a talking point when you highlight the element to guests. It comes in two sizes: a standing version and a wall version.
Furniture with a few tricks up its sleeve
What’s a furniture collection without mentioning the actual furniture? While I wasn’t particularly drawn to them (the sofas are… utilitarian, at best), there are a few pieces I don’t mind purchasing. Top of the list is the Avan dining set (from $399). You probably won’t think much of it at first glance, but let me direct your attention to the cut-out details. Such a clever design element, don’t you think? Hold on to the cut-outs to pull the chairs out.
If you’re looking for a statement piece in your home (or just another quirky piece of furniture to fit in with what you already have), the Rumi accent chair ($799) is your best bet. I liked how plush and comfortable it feels, though it’s a little low for my liking. The vintage silhouette lends more character to this piece.
No abode is complete without floor drapery, and the multicoloured Maya rug (from $599) should be placed in your home. The colours go well together and add a little spice (if you will) to your overall space. The rug makes a good focal point and might even be one of the things your visitors will keep asking you about.
The Reya drape vase (from $199) also deserves a spot in your residence. Available in two sizes, I reckon you can place the vase anywhere. A centrepiece on your dining table? Of course! Beside the television console? Most definitely. And the best part is, you don’t even need to put flowers in it! It’s a standout no matter where (or how) you put it.

Whenever a designer collaboration goes out into the world, the first thing that comes to mind is: how involved is the other party? In this respect, I’m glad to know that Castlery and Tan France went all in with this first-ever collection. Tan convinced me with his descriptions of the design elements and drove home the point that the pieces are effortlessly classic with some colourful, whimsical touches just to zhoosh things up.
Of course, I’m not going to open my wallet for all 18 pieces, but there are a few items that I’ve already added to my cart, and I can’t wait for them to be delivered.
