Looking for a hot new table to up the ante at lunchtime? Whether you’re hosting a business meeting or dining with friends, this restaurant at InterContinental Singapore adds a touch of class to the buffet experience
You haven’t had breakfast and you’re just done with your third meeting of the morning. Yet, you need to find a solution to squeeze in lunch and somehow entertain a VIP business associate? We think we’ve found exactly what you need. Perfect for business lunch meetings, Ash & Elm at InterContinental® Singapore has recently launched a new European influenced semi-buffet lunch menu that will impress both your appetite and your associate. And since it’s semi-buffet (we’ll get to that in a jiffy), you needn’t worry about lapsing into an afternoon food coma. Intrigued? So are we.
The restaurant
Despite sitting on the ground floor of InterContinental® Singapore, Ash & Elm has a distinctly non-hotel restaurant vibe to it. A skylight runs the length of the dining room, allowing natural light to flood in, creating the perfect lunchtime ambience. So far, so chic.
Semi-buffet you say?
Yes, there is such a thing! And turns out, it’s a stroke of genius for lunchtime dining. While starters and desserts are served buffet-style, main courses are a la carte. Not only does this prevent the temptation of piling your plate metres high with multiple cuisines (no chance of that here; the food is all European), it also creates a distinctly sophisticated atmosphere that the average buffet lacks. What’s more, if you’re feeling hungry enough, you can choose to indulge in a main course, with just a #10 supplement. Sweet!
Starters and desserts
Kick things off at the well-stocked salad section or with a delicious soup. It’s a light way to start, but ensures you’ll have plenty of room to enjoy the rest of the spread. And trust us; you’ll definitely want to leave room for dessert! During our visit, we indulged in mini jellies (wine-flavoured, no less), meringues, fresh crepes, banana crumble with creme anglais, decadent pots of salted chocolate; impossible to pick a fave. After trying the lot (all in the name of research, we swear) we can confirm that you’ll definitely need a second stomach to fit this lot in – and that it’s worth the extra hour on the treadmill the next day.
Main courses
There’s a chicken, fish, flatbread, pasta, and steak option available, though the menu maintains an element of surprise with a daily rotation of each dish du jour. We imagine whenever you visit that you’ll have a tough time choosing from these delish sounding options – think chorizo flatbread with bell peppers and olives, roasted lemon-rosemary chicken, acquerello risotto with asparagus and parmigiano reggiano, or sea bass filet a la plancha. The portions are perfectly-sized, meaning that dreaded food coma won’t materialise, huzzah!
Cheese & charcuterie room
Cheese lovers: rejoice! A whole room dedicated to fromage is exactly where we want to find ourselves at the end of any dining experience, especially one that is also home to divine charcuterie (we recommend the house-made pastrami), pates, and chutneys. Now excuse us while we go and install something similar in our office bomb shelter.
Semi-Buffet Lunch (Mondays to Fridays) 12pm – 2pm. Appetisers, soups and desserts $38++, or with a choice of main course from $48++.
