Looking for a lavish stay in Hong Kong? Here's a perfect spot in this city that provides spacious guestrooms, blissful spa experiences and more
Back in 2009, I backpacked to Hong Kong for the very first time and ’twas indeed a humbling experience. Eight years later, I revisited the shining metropolis once more; and for my comeback trip, I decided to kick it up a notch – a luxury stay at The Landmark Mandarin Oriental in Central Hong Kong! Typically patronised by socialites, business elites and even stars like Victoria Beckham, this Forbes-nominated and five-star hotel screams extravagance at its finest and I was lucky enough to experience it.

The perfect location
If you’re looking for picturesque views from your hotel room, this might not be it. Still, I’d pick The Landmark Mandarin Oriental. Why? Simply because the hotel is located in Central Hong Kong. It’s a five-minute walk from the Airport Express line; tucked within the Central Business District of Hong Kong where you’ll find key commercial buildings; and a stone’s throw from the bustling shopping district – an undeniably convenient location in exchange for a good view. That’s a good bargain, I’d say.

A guestroom that blew my mind
My Hong Kong experience was elevated to the next level when I entered the guestroom (L600 Deluxe King Room) at The Landmark Mandarin Oriental. Designed by Hong Kong-based international designer, Joyce Wang, the room possesses noteworthy urban design features such as the glass-enclosed bathroom that has a spa-inspired circular bathtub; the gold-embellished sleeping quarter adorned with a comfortable king-sized bed and arty, sophisticated wall décor; the functional and beautiful walk-in wardrobe; and an in-room interactive entertainment system that allows integration with mobile devices (yes, I might’ve connected to Spotify on my phone and blasted head-bobbing hits while dancing around the room). I admit: I almost didn’t want to leave the room.

What’s more? The stars were aligned, and I had the opportunity to take a sneak peek into the newest room in the building: the ultra-spacious presidential suite, or glamorously dubbed the Apartment Suite. The moment I stepped into the room, it was like walking into a real estate dream. Located on the hotel’s top floor, the Apartment Suite differs from many presidential suites at other hotels. It is more than just a business-friendly space; the 1,500 square foot suite cleverly encapsulates the concept of home-away-from-home by introducing lifestyle elements such as homely fabrics and furniture, effortlessly incorporating elegance and timeless style.

An unforgettable spa experience
It’s not just the rooms that whisk you away. From its pilates and yoga studio to its 18-metre lap pool, and especially its PEDI:MANI:CURE studio, Landmark’s luxe amenities were just as remarkable. Roaming the streets of Hong Kong took a toll on my body, so I checked into The Oriental Spa, the hotel’s premier holistic spa that offers a selection of Eastern and Western treatments. There, I received its latest spa treatment called Jet Lag Cure – an intensive rebalancing body treatment that helps to reduce the negative repercussions of jet lag such as stiff muscles and insomnia. This treatment definitely took me on a relaxing journey: it started with a full-body brushing using natural cactus sisal bristles for an enhanced circulation, and gradually proceeded to the gentle application of a highly-concentrated essential oil body gel and culminated with a full-body essential oil massage for the ultimate hydration. 90 minutes later, I’d never felt so rejuvenated; I was ready to conquer crazy Hong Kong again.

Unrivalled service and hospitality from the get-go
The unrivalled service provided by the hotel was the frosting on the cake. Aside from the attentive bellboy and reception staff, I was treated to a welcome gift in my room – think decadent dessert accompanied with tea (how fancy)! They even went the extra mile and helped to set up my tub for the ultimate bathtub experience – talk about that extra royal treatment!

Exquisite dining options
When hunger strikes after hours of lazing around in the gorgeous room, there are international architect-designed bars and restaurants within the vicinity for you to check out. I got to enjoy a delectable breakfast set at the hotel’s two Michelin-starred fine dining restaurant called Amber. My breakfast commenced with a bowl of Greek yoghurt filled with fruits, followed by three different types of bread complemented with four different types of jams. The breakfast set ended with a plate of creamy scrambled eggs, thick chicken sausage, golden hash browns and grilled tomato. By the end of my meal, I was filled to the brim. Unfortunately, I didn’t get the opportunity to try its lunch or dinner menu – the next visit, perhaps?
