With New York Fashion Week now over, we’ve got a new stash of beauty inspo to shake up our make-up and hair routines. While some statement looks were seriously out there, others are perfect for our day-to-day lives. We pick the ones worth trying in SG…
One of our biggest guilty pleasures has got to be catching up with the world’s biggest Fashion Weeks, including the most recent New York Spring/Summer 2018 showcase. This season, the runways saw slicked back hair, graphic eyes, and insanely shimmery, make-our-knees-go-weak highlighters. Here are our favourite wearable beauty looks (no braided eyebrows here!) you can wear in Singapore.
Soft burgundy eyes
On the catwalk: At the Adean Spring/Summer showcase (pictured top), the look was softly smoked out burgundy and bronze eyeshadow.
IRL: To mimic this, stick with light pinks, berries, burgundies and light brown shades and blend the harsh edges out for a softer finish.
Extreme cat eyes
On the catwalk: At the Marc Jacobs show, models strutted out in thickly lined eyes.
IRL: Take your love for cat eyes to the extreme, but pay close attention to your eye shape for this look. Those with monolids can try lining in the crease of their eye, so the eyeliner appears even when you close your lids while those with hooded eyes can use a generous sweep of eyeliner along the lashline, and extend it upwards to the eyebrows. Pair with luminous skin and nude lips to let your eyes be the star.
Next level highlight
On the catwalk: Not for the faint of heart, over-the-top strobing isn’t going anywhere. Layer different shades of highlighters for a multi-dimensional glow. At the Fenty x Puma show, models wore a gorgeous combination of Fenty Beauty Kilawatt highlighters and Match Stix shimmer skinsticks.
IRL: Highlight your cheeks, inner corners of your eyes and under your brow bones for an all-over glow.
Eye adornments
As seen at Jeremy Scott’s show, eye makeup was kept minimal, with crystals (which were specially picked to flatter models’ skin tones) glued under the eyes.
IRL: Best reserved for blowout parties (great for the upcoming festive season too) and festivals, eye adornments are the perfect trick to make your eyes pop with little effort.
The ponytail
On the catwalk: At Victoria Beckham’s Spring/Summer show, low ponytails reigned.
IRL: Tackle the frizz with a hair serum and a tangle teezer before looping it at the end. It’s the perfect, relaxed solution to tackle Singapore humidity, especially for girls with thicker hair as high ponytails give them headaches (true story!)
The horizontal ombre lip
On the runway: Ombre lip trends are nothing new, but these typically worked vertically, with the lips shades moving from dark to light in the center of the ship. Helmut Lang reverses the popular trend, this time with colours from dark to light horizontally.
IRL: Stick with darker shades, and line those lips for clean, sharp edges.
