Call us basketcases, but we’re totally nuts for these handwoven beauties! Here’s where to shop them.
We’ve been known to splurge on a frivolous decor item or two (statement chair or OTT wall mirror anyone?) but we don’t play around with storage items. These are the saviours that keep our hoarding habits a secret after all. But storage doesn’t have to mean boring old boxes stashed under your bed or in the dark corners of your wardrobe. Handwoven baskets, are all the rage right now and keep our stuff (and even plants) in tact while looking beautiful in beautiful in our mini jungalows. Here’s where to shop them.
IKEA
It won’t surprise you that IKEA is home to an assortment of baskets. The Fladis seagrass bad boys are available in braided and plain, or handwoven and in black. Turn the handles up to hide your things or to house your plants, or turn it down to display your decor (think throws, or cushions).
IKEA, locations in Queenstown and Tampines.
Bohemian
If you’re a regular at Boutiques at the Pit Building, or Affordable Style Files (as we are), you’ve probably seen the massive pom pom and seagrass storage baskets. You can thank Bohemian for them – these guys bring in some of the most beautiful baskets in town. What you leave the store with entirely depends on your luck as stock is often limited. The range includes pom pom and tassel baskets in an array of pastels and sizes, delicate net baskets and Vietnamese seagrass baskets. If you’re even luckier still, you can even find Moroccan berber baskets from time to time, but these are always snapped up fast, so grab ‘em when you see ‘em.

StyloDeco
Although it’s got a limited range, StyloDeco’s baskets are great for durable storage options. The Chaka set includes three rattan baskets of small to medium sizes, which are great for keeping everything from stationery to random trinkets you can’t bear to chuck. Other alternatives include the Kubu Basket in grey and white which work well as planters.

Tatty Marsh
Don’t beat yourself up if you’ve never heard of Tatty Marsh. We recently chanced upon this hole-in-the-wall store in Tanglin Mall and hyperventilated just a little…(okay, a lot) over the cushion wall (yes, that’s right! A whole wall of tropical printed cushions), coastal chic interiors and furniture. Woven baskets include white bamboo ones and large rectangular ones lined with linen for your laundry.
Tatty Marsh, Tanglin Mall, 163 Tanglin Road, Singapore 247933
Massione
Maissone’s yet another secret we’d love to keep to ourselves. The range of baskets is fairly wide. Take your pick from raffia baskets with white trim, tall handwoven seagrass ones in a variety of sizes from extra small to extra large, unique printed tribal Bornean baskets, and water hyacinth hampers with lids.

TaylorB
When we think of TaylorB, luxe mirrored surfaces and cream furnishings come to mind, so we don’t blame you for not thinking of the boutique when basket hunting. Baskets here aren’t your usual woven variety. Instead, they come in ceramic, or are made of top-quality acacia wood.
TaylorB, 43 Keppel Road, Singapore 099418
House of AnLi
House of AnLi is yet another Tanglin Mall you wish you knew about earlier. The bistro-slash-store is home to a gorgeous range of quality interiors imported from all over Europe. Ones we’ve spotted include woven baskets made of rope and rattan that we’ve never seen elsewhere, as well as tall rattan ones.

Elements
Elements is where you’ll find some of Singapore’s most beautiful interiors made of brass, teak, marble and of course, rattan. The Kubu basket is one of our favourites for storing throw cushions, while the Amazon Tray Table doubles up as a storage basket and a fabulous tray.
