The buzz on what’s happening in Singapore this week
1. Now open: A blooming fairytale destination
Have you heard? The latest floral landscape multi-concept space by 1-Group just opened on 2 May, and it’s aptly named 1-Flowerhill. Taking over a conservation house at 6 Imbiah Road, the magnificent estate is a lush beauty. Step in and you’ll find dining concepts such as Wildseed Cafe, the new Wildseed Bar & Grill, and the French-Japanese restaurant Camille. Who’s up for a little weekend exploration?
2. Clarke Quay, is that you?
Your favourite late-night hangout just got a facelift, and it’s looking mighty cool. The revamped CQ @ Clarke Quay is officially open: it’s now home to about 60 dining, retail, and lifestyle concepts, including more than 50% new tenants. If you haven’t been, swing by to check out the coolest Fairprice Finest in town, as well as Swee Lee’s shop, bar, and cafe. Other new names include Il Clay Supper Club, Jules by chef Laurent Brouard, and Senor Taco’s new spot.
P.S. if you’re up for a fun night out, head to The Xperience, where you’ll enjoy retro skating at Rollermania 4.0, White-Rabbit infused treats at the city’s first White Rabbit pop-up cafe, and carnival and arcade games at The Xmmersive Games. Plus, look forward to more openings later this year, such as Lava’s fitness concepts, Fort Canine Swimming Club, and more.
3. Cue all the millennial May memes
Yes, it’s gonna be May. May the Fourth be with you… and all that jazz. With 4 May coming up this weekend, The Lego Group is celebrating its 25th anniversary of Lego Star Wars with a pop-up from now till 19 May at Wisma Atria. Pop by to check out statues of popular characters like Stormtroopers and Darth Vader, a Lego diorama built by Titan Creations, the latest version of the Lego Fortnite x Star Wars game, and a contest where you’ll win prizes if you guess the number of Lego lightsabers correctly.
Oh, and on 4 May itself, you’ll witness the local costumed fan group, 501st Legion, do an Imperial March-in. Don’t forget to snag new releases and merch while you’re there!
4. Jam your heart out
There’s a new independent music rehearsal facility at Esplanade, and it’s run by local music industry pioneers, Snakeweed Studios. Tumbleweed Studios is home to four acoustically treated rooms kitted out with top-tier equipment from brands like Pearl, Zildjian, Aguilar, Marshall, and Fender. The 2,000 sq ft space caters to everyone from cosy groups to big ensembles, with rates ranging from $25 to $45 per hour. So the next time you need a place to jam, you know where to go.
5. Keep your gin up
Congratulations are in order to Tanglin Gin, which made history in Singapore recently! Its Tanglin Black Powder Navy Strength Gin is the first and only gin in the world to secure a Triple Platinum award for five years in a row at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Curious about its award-winning creations? Make your way to Tanglin Gin’s distillery at Dempsey for a tour or a tasting to find out for yourself.

6. Crazy Rich Asians, but in song
If you thought the Crazy Rich Asians hype died down in 2018, think again. This best-selling novel will be getting a stage adaptation. Led by director Jon M. Chu (who also directed the film), it’ll be his first time dabbling with a Broadway production. With music written by Helen Park and lyrics by Amanda Green and Tat Tong, it’s another excuse to plan a trip to New York.
7. A goddess prepares for her arrival
Jazz-pop lovers, you’ll be thrilled to learn that Laufey will be bringing her Bewitched tour to Singapore. If you’re an avid TikTok user, you might’ve heard her whimsically catchy tunes that often take the app by storm. This includes Valentine, From the Start, and Falling Behind. What you might not know? This Icelandic-Chinese singer has numerous awards under her belt, including the Icelandic Music Awards. Tickets aren’t on sale just yet, but set a reminder for yourself to snag them on 7 May.
8. Get ahead of the big C
Did you know that breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths among women in Singapore? To combat that and increase awareness, 365 Cancer Prevention Society is offering free mammograms to women over 40 with a blue or orange Chas card. All you have to do is register online! You’re also welcome to donate and support women from lower income groups by sponsoring pre, post, and full mammogram screenings.
