Mamma Always Said is a chill restaurant offering a selection of tasty morsels and a great drinks menu
Let’s agree that Central is full of amazing restaurants. Whether it is Middle Eastern spots like Bedu, fine dining restaurants like Arcane or authentic street food, you can get pretty much anything in the CBD. Recently, we went over to try Mamma Always Said, the latest opening from Meraki Hospitality Group, and discovered a cool hangout that serves an interesting array of delicious food from around the globe.
Tell me about the vibes…
Mamma Always Said is a fairly tiny indoor restaurant. You can choose to sit along the windows facing Peel Street or at the bar tables. The overall lighting is very soothing, so you can enjoy the meal without having to rush. Friendly staff are on hand to help with any questions and make recommendations on what to try.
And what about the food?
The menu at Mamma Always Said is very varied and includes Grilled Octopus, Hanger Steak and Roast Cauliflower. A wide range of drinks such as milkshakes, cocktails and wines are also available.
To start with, we ordered the Sandwich Country Ham from the à la carte menu. Usually, the moisture in the cheese would make the bread mushy, but the version at Mamma Always Said was an exception. The sandwich was overloaded with delicious cheese, and they managed to retain the crispiness of the toast, allowing you to hear the crunch clearly when you bite into it – so good! We think Mamma Always Said does a great job in making crispy food since their fries were also outstanding.
As we were there for lunch, we also tried one of the smoothies. The Berry Summer had just the right amount of sweetness without too much milk, and we were able to finish the drink without an exploding tummy!
How about desserts?
Don’t worry about being faced with a lack of dessert options here. From doughnuts to cheesecakes to cookies, there are a wide variety of sweets that you can choose from. The Jam Doughnut we ordered came with a generous amount of sugar coating and strawberry jam, which is perfect for those with a sweet tooth.
We had a great time at Mamma Always Said and look forward to going back at dinner time to sample their extensive drinks list too.
