Chinese folk and alternative rock, Korean new wave and Japanese breakbeat… It’s a three-day music feast at Ear Hub 2018!
If you’re into local music festivals like The Week Hong Kong or simply interested in discovering alternative bands like The Bilinda Butchers or Beach Fossils, then watch out for Ear Hub 2018 this June! Presented by Renaissance Foundation, the three-day indie music conference Ear Hub 2018 will be held at 1563 at the East (Hong Kong Night) on 10 June and KITEC (Expo Asia Showcase) on 11-12 June. With a stellar line-up of twelve music units from mainland China, Taiwan, Japan, Korea and Hong Kong, the three-night-long music performances are not to be missed.
What bands and musicians are playing at Ear Hub 2018?
Singer-songwriter Li Zhi, one of the headliners of Ear Hub 2018, has been active in the Chinese folk music scene since 2004 – with beautiful songs about romance in Zhengzhou or the life of Van Gogh. Having played sold-out shows across different states in China, he will return to Hong Kong for the fourth time.
One of the Chinese acts that we most look forward to seeing is Wu Tiao Ren. Coming from southeastern Guangdong Province, the amazing folk band Wu Tiao Ren deliver some of the most heartfelt and lively folk tunes that will make you swoon. However, if you’re more curious about Chinese alternative rock, definitely check out Re-Tros.

Other than all the great Chinese acts, there are also an array of Japanese, Korean and Taiwanese bands hitting Ear Hub 2018, including People Jam, Dubjuana Midnight System, Jade Eyes, Goonam and Se So Neon (with Korean indie band Se So Neon being one of our favourites!) Their music ranges from lo-fi and psychedelic rock to new wave and blues, it’s going to be a lot fun seeing them live, guaranteed!
If you’re more interested in Hong Kong bands, keep your eyes on talented singer-songwriters Ellen Loo, Olivier Cong, and bands like GDJYB and Phoon playing at Hong Kong Night. Despite being its debut year, Ear Hub 2018 has put together a diverse and exciting lineup, so music lovers of all kinds can enjoy themselves while discovering something new – isn’t that brilliant?
