Set within a magical garden setting, Uma Garden in Umalas is where you can graze on share-style plates that have been touched by fire...
Nestled amongst Umalas’ rice paddies and surrounded by greenery is Uma Garden – a fire-based restaurant with the humble philosophy of bringing people together over real food and good vibes. Just minutes from both Canggu and Seminyak, Uma Garden is a sanctuary away from the bustle, and with its stylishly rustic ambiance and prime address on one of Umalas’ most trendy streets, it’s fast become the go-to neighbourhood hangout for both expats and seasoned foodies alike.
As its name suggests, Uma Garden is set within a magical garden setting – the perfect spot for a romantic candle-lit date night or an al fresco dinner with friends. And with a menu that’s been carefully designed to share, there’s no better place to round up your fellow foodies to graze beneath the stars. In fact, it’s when the sun begins to set that this vibrant lounge really comes to life, serenaded by the sounds of a sizzling grill, a constant hum of laughter from Uma Garden’s long communal tables, and the chirrup of nature all around…
Make it an al fresco dinner beneath the stars
With such a dazzling design and dreamy setting, we say, head to Uma Garden early in the evening before the sun has completely set. You’ll then want to settle in for a pre-dinner aperitivo at the contemporary bar and lounge, where a seemingly endless selection of wines, creative cocktails and craft beers await. Then, as dinner time swings around, head toward the theatrical open-flame grill which – rightfully so – takes place centre stage, before making your way to the garden – the heart and soul of Uma Garden.
It’s in this magical garden where dinner is served, lined by long, communal tables to bring people together over great food and lively conversation. And while you’re grazing on shared plates and sipping your way through the stellar cocktails, you’re surrounded by tropical plants and the sparkling night sky. It’s a warm and welcoming space designed for mixing and mingling over honest recipes and wood-fired flavours… which is exactly what Uma Garden is all about.
Premium ingredients, done right
The kitchen team at Uma Garden believes in one thing: letting quality produce speak for itself. And by using the primitive technique of grilling over a wood fire, the true taste of each premium ingredient can truly shine – all with a subtle smokiness after being kissed by fire. We’re talking Wagyu beef and juicy prawns ember-grilled to perfection, where the richness and flavours of each delicacy are enhanced by flames.
For even more surf and turf, graze on the enormous wood-fired Australian Wagyu Tomahawk, then go big with a kilo of grilled Grouper. It’s served with burnt rosemary, kaffir lime and capers in clarified butter, plus Spanish-style roasted vegetables on the side. You’ll want to pair this shared feast with the equally smoky cocktails, like the Wood Fire Lemon Sour with coconut charcoal, or the Roasted Tiki with wood-fired pineapple.
All of this, best paired with great company
To really get a taste of Uma Garden’s culinary repertoire, you’ll want to bring your entourage and sample your way through every single wood-fired dish (yes, all of them!). Sure, Uma Garden is one of our new fave date night destinations, but this menu is best enjoyed with a full table of family and friends too. It’s inspired by the simplicity of togetherness, where each plate is designed to keep you swapping, sharing and grazing all night long.
Start with the homemade beef croquettes served on a burnt eggplant emulsion, before moving on to the oh-so succulent 24-hour slow-cooked pork belly, or the Australian Wagyu skirt steak served with chimichurri and salsa criolla. Not into carnivorous eats? There are plenty of veggie-friendly and char-grilled plates too, from the roasted pumpkin and the stuffed bell pepper, to the sweet potato gnocchi with truffle parmesan foam, crispy sage leaves and parmesan crust.
And whatever you choose to feast on, you know that every dish is of the highest quality, because Uma Garden is also committed to using only the very best seasonal and locally sourced ingredients from Bali and beyond – just another reason to love this neighbourhood hub.
