Before You Go: Ubud Shopping Tips
- Getting there – Ubud is about 1-2 hours from the south depending on traffic. The easiest way up is a pre-booked private transfer or taxi with a fixed rate. On a budget? The Kura-Kura shuttle runs twice daily from Lippo Mall in Kuta (from IDR 100,000), or hop on Trans Metro Dewata‘s Corridor 4 from Denpasar for just IDR 4,400. Once in town, Grab and Gojek are your best friends.
- Bring cash – Many smaller boutiques and all the market stalls are cash only. Stock up on rupiah before you head out so you’re not caught short mid-browse.
- Bargain at the market, not the boutiques – Haggling is very much expected at Pasar Seni Ubud or any traditional market in Bali. At the artisan boutiques on this list though, prices are fixed and reflect the true craft and time that went into each piece.
- Shop what Ubud does best – Ubud is Bali’s creative and cultural heartland, which means it has things you simply won’t find as easily anywhere else on the island. The big ones: traditional textiles like batik and ikat, hand-painted ceramics, intricate woodcarvings, and Balinese paintings.
- Leave room in your luggage – This one’s non-negotiable. Whether it’s a hand-painted ceramic bowl or a hand-woven textile, you will find something you can’t leave without. Pack light, or bring an extra tote (you’ve been warned!).

And while you’re in Ubud… don’t sleep on the OG: Ubud Art Market

Right in the beating heart of town, directly opposite the Royal Palace on Jalan Raya Ubud, the Art Market (or Pasar Seni Ubud) is a glorious, maze-like labyrinth that’s been drawing locals and travellers for over a century. Think two floors of colour, chaos, and creativity: handwoven rattan bags, batik and ikat fabrics, hand-carved wooden figures, Balinese paintings, and so much more. You can pop in for ten minutes and emerge an hour later with arms full of things you didn’t know you needed.
The golden rule? Get there early. Arriving shortly after opening means fewer crowds and a more relaxed browse. There’s also a lovely local belief worth knowing: Balinese sellers believe the first sale of the day brings good luck, so early shoppers often benefit from better prices!
Best for: Local souvenirs and that classic Bali market buzz
Address: Jl. Raya Ubud No.35, Ubud
Opening hours: Daily, 10am – 5pm.
Happy Ubud shopping, Honeys!
