Sure-fire fixes for the day after
That extra shot seemed like a really good idea at the time, didn’t it?
When the cold hard light of day hits, your mouth feels like the bottom of the bird cage and there’s a picture of you dancing on a tabletop with a drag queen on Facebook, it’s time to kick into action with our list of hangover cures.
Coconut quencher
Take advantage of being on a tropical island and grab yourself a coconut from a roadside stall; they are mother nature’s hangover gift. Packed full of electrolytes, these orbs of goodness will rehydrate and energise.
Big Breakfast
What’s that old adage, ‘feed a cold and starve a fever’? We think there needs to be an addition – ‘fuel a hangover’. Bacon and eggs always work. Go old school and catch the ocean breezes at La Lucciola or pop around the corner to Petitenget. Sea Circus does a great breakfast and superb coffee but our absolute new favourite is Habitual. Best eggs Ben in Bali!
Bloody Who?
Bloody Mary of course! We’re big fans of the Potato Head version. It’s almost like a meal in a drink… or a drink in a meal. Either way, it’s damn good!
Apparently the Bloody Mary originated at the St Regis in New York in the 30s so why not make a pilgrimage to St Regis in Nusa Dua and check out its tropical cousin, the Bali Mary? There’s a secret ingredient in there but you’ll just have to keep ‘em coming until you find out what it is.
Oh my aching head!
If the thought of lying face down for a full body massage makes you feel a bit queasy then what you need is a cream bath! Your head gets massaged while your locks get a hair mask…and then they work on your shoulders and arms. We absolutely love Esthetic, Bodyworks, and are very fond of the macadamia oil treatment at Think Pink Nails.
Downward facing dog
Just a quick disclaimer! This is not something we personally practice with a hangover but our friends with yoga mats say this is the bee’s knees, or the dog’s bark, or the cat’s meow. In short – it’s pretty fabulous for a hangover cure. The Yoga Barn in Ubud or Desa Seni in Canggu come highly rated.
Take the plunge
Salt water is a famous cure-all so go for a swim or even better, a surf. Double 6 is good if you’re with kids or a beginner or head to Uluwatu for some world-class waves – Padang Padang anyone? Hangover is gone and the surf is up!
