1. Indulge in aromatherapy
Now, I’m guilty of scrolling on my phone until I doze off. But this sleep hack is helping to change that. For this, I tried Muji’s diffuser and ‘sleeping blend’ essential oil. The diffuser features various timer functions (from 30 to 180 minutes) and doubles as a night light. I set it up around an hour before bedtime and did a spot of reading, sans any devices.
I’d say this is a win. I drifted off in no time at all. Aromatherapy is well-loved as a natural sleep enhancer as essential oils are believed to have calming properties. Coupled with my no-devices rule (which was by far, the toughest part of the deal), this sleep hack certainly seemed to work for me. Sure, it takes a few minutes to set up (as compared to the split second it takes for me to grab my phone), but I reckon it’s healthier for my sleep in the long run. It makes my room smell like a spa, too.

2. Embrace a body pillow
This one’s for all the people with body aches that result in sleep struggles. When I heard that the pressure point relief from embracing a body pillow can help with getting quality shut-eye, I had to give it a shot. Muji’s L-shaped multi-size body pillow is a game changer for me. As someone with constant shoulder aches, the pillow supports me and relieves pressure in all the right spots.
I was pleasantly surprised when I woke up without aches after a long time. And I’ve always loved snuggling up to a bunch of pillows, but this one body pillow might just convert me. At 129cm by 43cm, it provides the same comfort and support as my three other pillows. (Though, as a serial tosser and turner, it does get a little troublesome to toss around this long pillow under the sheets.) It’s also versatile – it serves me well beyond the bedroom, keeping my posture in check when I’m chilling on the couch.

3. Sink into cooling sheets
It’s said that cooler temperatures can make you drowsy, resulting in a lower heart rate that lulls you into a deep slumber. With that in mind, I gave Muji’s cooling bed linen a try. My first thought after unboxing was, “this bedding is super soft!”. Everything fit nicely on my bed, and I was super tempted to just lie down and take a snooze. (Unfortunately, it wasn’t bedtime yet.)
When I finally sunk into bed, I felt super relaxed. The blanket was cool and kept me snug. I didn’t fall asleep immediately, but I had a good rest when I eventually did. If I had to choose my favourite piece, it was the blanket for me – it felt comfy and not stuffy! Bonus points to the pillowcase, which fit well with my pillow and kept me cool throughout the night.
