When it comes to the Lunar New Year season, we all know what’s in-store: endless house visiting, stuffing ourselves with festive goodies and some good ol’ yusheng tossing. While we love the typical celebrations, a little switch-up is always welcome. Why not swap the usual CNY fanfare for a fascinating underwater adventure at S.E.A. Aquarium? From an enthralling underwater dragon dance presentation to festive decor all-around, this aquatic world promises a splashing good time for the whole family. Read on for the aquarium’s exciting line-up this new year!
1. Discover unique marine animals and their fascinating features
Home to over 100,000 marine animals, the S.E.A. Aquarium is an unmissable spot for oceanic discovery. Stealing the spotlight this festive season are four species with fascinating abilities and characteristics, as well as interesting links to auspicious greetings. Come on an interactive journey around the aquarium, where you’ll glean unique features and fun facts about the archerfish, weedy sea dragon, lyretail anthias and sand tiger shark.
Take the archerfish, for instance. A sharpshooter that accurately spits jets of water at its flying prey, this little marksman has been linked to an auspicious Chinese idiom that symbolises career success and an upgraded life in the new year. As for the star of Spring in the Sea, the weedy sea dragon, we hear it’s reminiscent of the mythical Chinese dragon. Curious to find out more? It’s your sign to swing by the aquarium!
2. Bask in a one-of-a-kind underwater extravaganza
Say goodbye to the traditional lion dance and brace yourself for a spectacular Underwater Dragon Dance Presentation at S.E.A. Aquarium. At 3.30pm daily, gather around the Open Ocean Habitat to witness the dragon conquering the oceans. Beyond a feast for the eyes (and camera!), this underwater performance symbolises fortune, success and vitality in the new year – and we’re so here for it.
3. Snap Insta-worthy moments everywhere
Now, we don’t want to put those stylish new outfits to waste. Decked out in festive ocean-themed decor and mesmerising light projections, the S.E.A. Aquarium makes a picturesque backdrop to capture all your #OOTD shots. While you’re snapping away, don’t forget to get a picture with the loveable manta mascot Manja, too. You can catch Manja on its meet-and-greets at 1.30pm and 4pm daily, with an extra sesh at 3pm on weekends and public holidays.
