Come 14 September, step into a vibrant festival celebrating all things wellness at Science Centre Singapore’s carpark!
We usually stroll past our parking spaces without giving them a second thought, but what if they could be transformed into vibrant spaces for play? Come 14 September, Science Centre Singapore welcomes you to Parking Day 2024! As part of a worldwide initiative to transform public spaces, its open-air carpark will be revamped into a wellness-centric festival.
In line with the theme of Science of Happiness – Live, Work, Play, dive into an array of activities that highlights the connection between science and well-being. More than 20 participating organisations are set to host booths and experiences that will boost your mental and physical wellness. And yes, entry is free for all. Read on to find out what’s in store!
6 highlights of Parking Day 2024 at Science Centre Singapore
1. Step in and be part of the art
From vibrant colours to striking designs and imaginative forms, art never fails to invoke a sense of wonder and joy. Here’s your chance to join in the fun and unleash your creativity. Make your way to The Palette House to try your hand at face painting before striking a pose with your fresh look in the photo booth. There’s also a 360-degree video booth to let you get experimental with your angles and poses.
If you’re up for a more unique art form, check out Fendeez Kopi and get acquainted with the therapeutic art of coffee powder painting. Forget expensive watercolour and acrylic paints ‘cos you’ll learn how to express your creativity with coffee powder – and create art without breaking the bank.
Over at Fashion Parade, marvel at the fabric mural and the 2m-tall Pink Earth. Symbolising hope and transformation, this iconic installation is made from discarded textile waste and has staged appearances at various locations over Singapore.
Bookworms can’t miss out on Wormhole’s Bookstore, too. An online haven for books and adorable merchandise from artists and creators across Southeast Asia, dive into a special curation of books and exclusive merchandise launches. Illustrator Doodnll will also be doing live drawings which can be printed and taken home as stickers. Simply share a happy memory and watch it come to life!
2. Roll up your sleeves for crafts galore
Does spending a day on DIY projects sound like a good time? Well, take all the time you need ‘cos it’s workshops galore here! And trust us, you’ll wanna try them all. First, head to Plastic Playday for an eco-friendly session with PlasticEvo and Science Centre Singapore’s STEM Cell team. You’ll learn all about plastic sorting, plus, discover how you can transform clean plastic bottles into 3D filaments for crafting.
Next, find your way to FloraClaySG for all things clay-based. Mental focus is a key to clay-making so let yourself tune inwards as you complete your masterpiece. Finally, stop by Crochet Corner to unravel the 101 of crocheting. Not to worry, you’ll learn simple crochet stitches so it’s totally beginner-friendly.
3. Pure bliss in every sip and bite
“Life is uncertain, eat dessert first,” said American writer Ernestine Ulmer. And you bet we’re on the same page as her. Tuck into delish nosh at the various F&B booths at Science Centre Singapore. Give yourself every reason to indulge at The Pommeraie Marche. This charming French-inspired pop-up bistro serves up a mouth-watering spread of cakes, cookies and coffee that’s utterly irresistible. We hear there’s even a mini game with prizes to be won!
Can’t go without your morning cuppa joe? Swing by Mindful Brewing with Bettr. Watch how these folks expertly and mindfully brew their coffee and tea, and learn all about different tasting notes and flavours. This tidbit will come in handy the next time you’re sipping on your cup of coffee or tea.
4. Get lost in immersive new worlds
We get it, life can be an intense roller coaster. Sometimes, all you need is a moment to unplug and unwind from your worries. Blending science and well-being, these immersive experiences will offer that escape you need. Play the role of a seasoned drone pilot at Drones For Good, where you have full reign in steering your drone through the skies. Be sure to take part in the mini quiz here to bring home a free gift!
Your next mission will be in space. Head to the Space Explorers: The Infinite booth for an exclusive preview of this upcoming space exploration experience at Science Centre Singapore. Debuting on 12 October 2024, this exhibition will transport you 400km above Earth into an awe-inspiring world inspired by NASA missions. This preview at Parking Day 2024 lets you try on the VR goggles headset and get a sneak peek of the upcoming expedition. It’s also the perfect time to secure tickets and score a limited edition iron-on space badge – limited to the first 50 who try the experience and purchase at least two tickets.
5. Snag front-row seats for epic performances
Feeling recharged and ready to go after all those interactive activities and immersive experiences? Perfect; it’s time to sit back, relax and enjoy vibrant performances at the Open Stage. The line-up will kick off with the Air-Mazing Science Show at 5.30pm, featuring live science demonstrations that reveal the marvellous properties of air. Following the show, there will be a KpopX Fitness session to release some good ol’ endorphins. Then, enjoy live performances all the way until the closing show at 7.30pm!
6. Catch a silent movie in an outdoor cinema
If you’re not ready for the fun to end, we’ve got a special treat for you! Stick around after 7.30pm for an outdoor screening of the heartwarming film, Wall-E. Round up your loved ones for a cosy night with two hours of unlimited popcorn and a free drink. This experience is exclusive to Annual Pass members at Science Centre Singapore (limited to the first 100 holders).
