Samantha Tracey tells us about her love for photography and how she enjoys creating images that reveal a story within.
We love entrepreneurs and small business owners at Honeycombers, which is why we’ve created Launchpad, a digital networking platform (with IRL benefits) that encourages connection, business support and community. It’s a privilege and pleasure to learn from so many talented folks! Looking for inspiration? Check out how Samantha Tracey, the founder of Samantha Tracey Photography, gets it done like a boss.
Tell us the story behind your business.
As a mother, I understand how quickly life’s moments fly by. My passion for photography grew out of a desire to capture these fleeting moments and preserve the genuine joy, love, and connection within families. This led me to establish Samantha Tracey Photography, where I focus on creating heartfelt images that tell each family’s unique story.
What are some milestones or achievements you’re most proud of?
One of my proudest achievements is building a loyal client base that returns to me to document their growing families. The testimonials and referrals that I’ve received from clients have played a huge part in my success.
Share with us a setback that taught you a valuable lesson about running a business.
Early in my photography career, I faced a significant setback when I lost a substantial amount of data due to a hard drive failure. This experience taught me the invaluable lesson of implementing a robust backup system. I now use multiple backup solutions, both physical and cloud-based, to ensure that my clients’ precious memories are always safe. This setback also reinforced the importance of being prepared for unexpected challenges and continuously improving my business practices to provide the best service possible.
Describe a typical day in your life and what you love most about it.
I love my Monday mornings to begin early with a quiet cup of tea while I plan the week ahead. I typically balance client photo sessions with editing and administrative tasks. Each day can be so different from the next. What I love the most about being a photographer is the blend of creativity, connection, and diversity of experiences.
What’s your favourite book, movie, or TV show that has influenced your entrepreneurial mindset?
One of my favourite books is “The Art of Possibility” by Rosamund Stone Zander and Benjamin Zander. This book’s insights on collaboration, leadership, and fostering a positive outlook have been instrumental in shaping my business approach and personal growth.
Any advice for aspiring entrepreneurs?
My top tip for aspiring entrepreneurs is to stay true to your passion and let it guide your business decisions. Building a successful business requires hard work, resilience, and a willingness to learn from successes and failures. Surround yourself with a supportive community, continuously seek feedback, and never stop refining your craft. Remember, every setback is an opportunity to grow and improve, so embrace the journey with an open heart and mind.
Top tip for maintaining a good work-life balance?
Prioritise your time and set clear boundaries between work and personal life to ensure you can fully enjoy both.
Favourite thing to do on weekends?
When I’m not shooting, I love to spend time with my family. Getting outdoors and exploring new places always makes my heart sing!
Tell us one fun fact about yourself that not many people know.
I lived in Singapore for a couple of years as a teenager and attended Yishun Junior College – I had the best two years!
