What is I’m Donut?

Founded by chef Ryouta Hirako, I’m Donut? was born out of experiments with the dough used in his bakery. The name is a playful nod to the idea that a donut doesn’t have to be what you expect.
Unlike the denser, chewier rings you might be familiar with, these Japanese-style donuts are known for their soft, airy texture. I’m Donut?’s first outlet opened in Tokyo’s Nakameguro neighbourhood, introducing diners to its signature nama donuts.
Since then, the Japanese brand has expanded internationally, with outlets in cities including New York, Taipei, Seoul and Kuala Lumpur.
What to expect at I’m Donut? Singapore

The menu is still under wraps, so you’ll have to wait a little longer to see which flavours make the cut. But the brand’s overseas offerings give us a few ideas of what to look out for.
The original nama donut is a natural starting point for anyone keen to try the signature treat in its simplest form. Matcha and chocolate varieties offer more familiar flavour options, while cream-filled versions such as custard and matcha cream are worth keeping an eye out for. I’m Donut? also serves other styles, including glazed and chocolate-coated donuts.
There’s room for a little regional inspiration, too The KL outlet has featured creations inspired by familiar favourites, including Milo, pandan and banana fritter caramel. Whether Singapore will get its own exclusive flavours remains to be seen. But we’re keeping our fingers crossed! Imagine a durian nama donut or one inspired by ondeh-ondeh…
