See how foodies get schooled on delicious wines and Mediterranean bites by the folks from Vinomofo and Maggie Joan’s, all while wearing a blindfold
Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Shiraz, Chianti – say what? If you can’t tell the difference between a Shiraz and Chianti, aren’t sure what goes best with these vinos, or simply need a refresher on your favourite wines, we reckon a dinner with wine delivery service, Vinomofo, should sort that out, pronto! At the Honeycombers & Vinomofo Blackmarket Degustation event on 29 March, our sporting readers took on the challenge of guessing the wines paired with each dish in a five-course degustation menu.

Held at “hidden” back alley resto Maggie Joan’s, the evening’s offerings comprises Mediterranean-inspired plates complementing a curated wine selection by Vinomofo. Guests tucked into courses such as a succulent seared beef fillet and a velvety Willunga 100 Limited Release Shiraz Grenache; lamb, eggplant and feta tortellini, and a Sensi ‘Campoluce’ Chianti from Tuscany; and a raspberry and sorrel goat’s cheese parfait, with Fox Gordon Brothers & Sisters Sauvignon Blanc.
For those who’ve missed out (boo!), here’s the full list of wines presented that evening:
- J. De Villebois Sauvignon Blanc, France 2015
- Allegience Alumni Aged Release Riesling, Clare Valley (Australia) 2012
- Sensi ‘Campoluce’ Chianti, Tuscany 2015
- Willunga 100 Limited Release Shiraz Grenache, McLaren Vale (Australia) 2015
- Fox Gordon Brothers & Sisters Sauvignon Blanc, Adelaide Hills (Australia) 2016
And if that’s not enough, we’ve also got the recipes for the beef tartare, lamb tortellini and beef fillet (you can thank us later.)
