Would you splurge on the Foreo UFO? We put it to the test and here’s the full lowdown...
Make no mistake: I’m not someone who skimps on my beauty regimen, which usually involves a six- to seven step routine, depending on the condition of my skin. While I’m serious about skincare, one (first world) gripe I have is the lack of time when it comes to extras – especially when work gets in the way. And really, who’s got time for sheet masks when sleep tops the list?
Mention the words “instant results” and you’ve got my attention. Foreo, an award-winning skincare company, known for its LUNA cleansing device, has another high-tech trick up its sleeve. They’ve launched the Foreo UFO Smart Mask Treatment, a trippy-looking smart mask treatment device that promises instant results in just 90 seconds. Of course, any product worth its weight comes with a price tag that’s a little steep, so I decided to see if it actually delivers on its hype.

So… what exactly is the Foreo UFO?
This handy little disk is designed to provide a spa-worthy treatment using its Hyper-Infusion Technology, which taps on the skin’s natural reactions to heat and cold using RGB LED light therapy – red stimulates collagen, green has a brightening effect and blue helps to reduce the appearance of acne. This smart-sensing function is combined with Foreo’s famous T-Sonic pulsations, which is said to help enhance the absorption of skincare products, for maximum efficacy. There are seven different masks available and you can choose from the Youth Junkie Mask, a rich formula that’s full of collagen, to the Matte Maniac Mask, a charcoal face mask that promises to remove excess sebum and impurities from the skin.

A three-step “secret” to great skin
For a brand that’s known for its smart approach to beauty, you’d expect nothing less than a techy kick-off for first timers. Don’t worry, all you have to do is download the Foreo For You app to scan your sheet masks and the device will recommend the preferred treatment. Once you’ve fixed the circular sheet mask on the device, you’re good to go!
The treatment starts a prompt from the app, which tells you to glide the device over your face. I chose to start with the Make My Day Mask, with red algae and hyaluronic acid for a moisture boost. Here’s where it gets interesting: the UFO’s hyper-infusion technology kicks in for the first 30 seconds and the gradual warming sensation (also known as Thermo-Therapy) feels surprisingly soothing on my skin. What it does is prime the skin for the absorption of the mask’s ingredients so you experience the full benefits of the treatment. The next 30 seconds involves a pulsating facial massage to lock in the formula, before ending with the cooling Cryo-Therapy treatment, which helps to lift and firm the skin. Fast, effective and super convenient, it’s almost like a mini spa session that you can treat yourself to before or after a hectic work day.
The moment of truth…
So how did the UFO measure up to its rep? For starters, my complexion felt smoother and more hydrated after a mere 90 seconds, and the RGB LED light therapy helped even out my skin tone. What I really enjoyed was how quickly my skin absorbed the mask’s essence, with no icky, sticky residue afterwards. The calming and soothing sensation is a huge winner and it sure beats the uncomfortable feeling of a cold sheet mask. For a time-strapped person like me, the Foreo UFO packs all the benefits of a facial, which gives me the option to skip a tedious beauty routine and focus on what I really need: sleep and a little TLC.
The Foreo UFO Smart Mask Treatment is retailing at $408. It’s available at foreo.com and on sephora.sg.
