In conjunction with Singapore Gallery Month, artcommune is pleased to present the 2026 edition of ‘Roots & Resonance’, a curated exhibition drawn from the private collection of Singaporean art patron, Stephen Teo. What began in 2014 as Stephen’s personal collection of works by Singapore artists has since evolved into a family-led commitment and a broader philanthropic mission: to champion Singapore’s cultural legacy by supporting local artistic talent, particularly living artists, through acquisition, public visibility, and meaningful engagement. The inaugural ‘Roots & Resonance’ exhibition, which was held at artcommune gallery in August 2025, marked the first public presentation of Stephen’s collection. The exhibition was a resounding success, drawing many positive responses and connecting with crowds from all walks of life.
On view at artcommune gallery from 8 to 30 August, ROOTS & RESONANCE 2026: THROUGH BRUSH AND MEMORY presents over 20 works by 5 Singapore artists: Goh Beng Kwan (b. 1937), Ong Kim Seng (b. 1945), Tan Choh Tee (b. 1942), Tay Bak Koi (b. 1939), and Tung Yue Nang (b. 1959). Despite the varying visual styles and approaches, their works resonate through a shared engagement with Singapore’s evolving identity and a cultural milieu that shaped their worldviews and aspirations beneath a changing sky.
