A fan favourite is back! The Chinese New Year International Lion Dance Competition returns this weekend, bringing high-energy performances and edge-of-your-seat stunts to the heart of Chinatown.
Held over 7 and 8 February 2026 at the Kreta Ayer People’s Theatre, this spectacular showcase gathers elite lion dance troupes from Singapore and across the region, including teams from China, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand. Expect powerful drumbeats, gravity-defying acrobatics and breathtaking high-pole lion dance performances, as teams compete for top honours on the grand stage.
Using traditional plum blossom pole techniques, performers will demonstrate precision, strength, and flawless choreography, celebrating the power, beauty, and spirit of this centuries-old art form. It’s a thrilling display of skill, tradition and multicultural artistry that both seasoned fans and first-time viewers will enjoy.
Come down to watch, cheer and soak in the festive atmosphere as part of Chinatown’s Chinese New Year celebrations. Prefer to catch the action for free? The competition will also be live-screened at Kreta Ayer Square, so everyone can join in the excitement.
