“Made in Italy”. These three little words spell more than just the origins of the product – the highly desirable merchandise mark also indicates, more often than not, great quality, and excellent craftsmanship.
If you were ever curious about the making of an Italian label, here’s a chance to go behind the curtains of some of the world’s most lauded names. Scotts Square will be hosting the landmark “60 Years of Made In Italy” exhibition till 9 November 2014, featuring – rejoice, fashion lovers – luminaries including Valentino, Giorgio Armani, Prada, Salvatore Ferragamo, and more.
This spectacular showcase tracks the birth of Italian fashion in 1951 Florence to its present day through 30 treasured dresses retrieved from the said Italian fashion houses and private collectors.

Highlights of the exhibition includes Fernanda Gattinoni’s Oscar-nominated “Impero” dress, worn by Audrey Hepburn in War and Peace (1956), as well as the tulle, sequins and gold-embroidered Prada piece worn by Cate Blanchett at the 2000 British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA).
But don’t just marvel at the beauty of these creations: some are made with experimental, high-tech fabrics and newly fashioned materials (of their time at least), like Emilio Pucci’s hand-painted polyester jersey dress from his 1967 Spring/Summer collection, and the 1998 Versace design with hand-sewn Swarovski crystals and beads.
