It’s time to make the art of tea appreciation part of your everyday life at Plantation by teakha
With the ongoing tea fever in the region, there are a growing number of Hong Kong tea houses that wow us with their bubble tea and matcha delicacies. One of the latest hidden gems we’ve discovered is Plantation by teakha. Nestled away in the Western district, Plantation in Sai Ying Pun is a lovely craft tea company that aims to bring the wisdom and heritage of tea-drinking to its customers. Find out why we adore this place.
Plantation by teakha
Founded by Taiwan-born Nana Chan, who is also the owner of the popular teakha cafe in Sheung Wan, Plantation by teakha is an ultra-modern and cosy space dedicated to tea. You might not be able to find cakes or sandwiches here, but you’re guaranteed blissful silence and pure serenity.
What’s also so special about Plantation is that there is a personal touch to the place and to the drinks they craft. With the philosophy being “teas that we love”, the team behind Plantation by teakha explain that they choose only the teas that remind them the moment they fell in love with tea, how sweet #awww.
An exquisite tea tasting experience at Plantation
With almost forty different kinds of teas selected from across the globe, such as the world-famous Oriental Beauty of Taiwan and the Anji White Tea from Hang Zhou, customers can enjoy a thirty-minute tea tasting session at the tea bar with three teas of their choosing. And the friendly staff at Plantation will make sure you hear all the interesting stories behind, like where the team source these tea leaves and why the English or the Chinese are particular into a certain kind of flavour.
What did we try at Plantation?
We opted for the Pre-Qingming Longjing from Hang Zhou, the Pinglin Wenshan Baozhong from Taiwan and the Red Jade with Bergamot Peel from Taiwan – green tea, oolong tea and black tea respectively.
The Pre-Qingming Longjing is kind of minty (and matcha-y), perfect for those who prefer a lighter flavour. For those who enjoy something floral and a good depth of flavour, the Pinglin Wenshan Baozhong would be your pick. But our favourite was the Red Jade with Bergamot Peel. It’s citrusy and it just tastes exactly like bergamot. And we’re told that it’s one of the most popular teas at Plantation.
Will we be back?
Yes, it’s that secret spot we’d love to share with only our closest friends and loved ones (and that’s why we’re sharing it with you).
