When we heard that Mere in Central had designed their own vegan lashes, we just had to go along and try them out
From affordable massages to styles from the best Hong Kong hair salons and nail art that adds a bit of bling to our fingers, we do love to indulge in a little pampering from time to time. And if you’re thinking about getting lash extensions in your future, then you may want to try out the vegan offerings from Mere in Central or Causeway Bay.
The vibe at Mere in Central

Mere has branches in both Causeway Bay and Central, but for our application, we went to the Central branch. Conveniently located just off LKF (in the same building as Enhale Meditation Studio), as soon as you step out of the elevator, you immediately feel like you’ve escaped the madness of the Hong Kong streets.
Music wafts throughout the space, that takes up the entire floor, where the reception area is tastefully decorated in black and white, with art pieces and books filling the interior. Enjoy a coffee or tea, as you wait to discuss your desired look with your aesthetician.
Choosing the design for you
There are a lot of things to consider when you’re designing a lash effect, but thankfully the team at Mere help you all the way through the process with their handy checklist. Expect to be asked a number of questions about your desired outcome to get them closest to your dream lashes. Mere designs all the lashes themselves and has been doing so for years for their boutique in Sydney, meaning the faux mink product is unique to this salon and suitable for vegans.
I wanted a winged look with a bit of curl, something to look more dramatic than my natural lashes, but not my-lashes-open-the-door-for-me epic. Eventually, we decided on a mixed length from 8mm-14mm with an N1.5 curl. The thickness was 0.12-0.15 and I opted for their Signature Sheer lashes, a product that feels lighter on.
The procedure
Once I’d decided on my look, I was taken back to the treatment room and was thrilled to find that it’s a private room. At many lash salons in Hong Kong, everyone sits in the same room during application, but an individual therapy room just adds a bit more privacy to the process. Lovely music played throughout, and the entire thing only took around an hour with the therapist stopping at halfway for me to check the lashes and ensure they were what I wanted (you can see them on the left above, while the right side shows my natural lashes.)
After-care
Before I left, they gave me the rundown on how to look after my lashes and a few eyelash combs to keep them separated and looking nice and neat.
It’s been three weeks now, and during the first fortnight I saw very little fall, but this week a few more have come off. That being said, they still look pretty good, and I even received a comment on them just yesterday. At $1695, they probably come in at the higher end of the scale, but we think they’re worth it.
