It’s been 20 years since the establishment of the Macao Special Administrative Region, and to celebrate, a whole host of events are taking place this December. Grab your camera, your friends and your family and head over to catch all the magic in person. And don’t miss the Macao-Zhuhai Fireworks in celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the establishment of Macao SAR on 22 December or the impressive New Year’s Eve Fireworks display.

1. Macao Light Festival 2019
Running until 31 December, the Macao Light Festival 2019 will take guests on a scintillating journey throughout the centre of town. Join Mak Mak–the Macao Tourism mascot, and discover how the SAR has grown and changed in the last 20 years.
Spread across four routes, including North District, Central District, Nam Van & Sai Van District and Nossa Senhora do Carmo Parish, highlights include kaleidoscopic pinwheels, projection mapping on the Ruins of Old St Paul’s, a passage of light and an installation of 2019 glowing lotuses. You can’t miss the interactive exhibitions, including Joy to the World, where you can write a message to Macao and receive a commemorative gift, plus, there will be parades, floating projections and more.

2. My Merry X’mas! Taipa Village Christmas Fair
Don’t miss the My Merry X’mas! Taipa Village Christmas Fair this December. A partnership between Taipa Village Cultural Association and Mandarin Oriental Macao, you can join the fun until 31 December, with a number of interesting shopping experiences and interactive activities for the whole family.
Santa Claus himself will be making regular appearances, and the kids will love getting their faces painted as you browse the artisan stalls, including Serendipity Handmade, MEEET and Ary Accessories Macau.

3. Fireworks displays
On 22 December, be sure to be in Macao for a magnificent fireworks display co-presented by Macao and Zhuhai. Taking place at 9pm in front of Macau Tower and Zhuhai Hengqin Financial Island, 160,000 rockets will be launched from four barges in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of Macao SAR. Throughout the 30-minute show, 600 drones and unmanned boats will also take part in the spectacle to celebrate the last twenty years and the move into the decade, with the drones working in unison to spell special phrases and to create visual representations of landmarks such as the ruins of St Paul’s.

4. Macau Shopping Festival
The Macau Shopping Festival is taking place throughout the month of December, making your festive shopping needs easier, and way more fun. Join in on a range of activities and deals taking place across Macao and nab a bargain for yourself while you’re at it.
And don’t miss Join Me Macau, a special bazaar taking place at Fisherman’s Wharf from 20-29 December. With over 50 exhibitors, the whole family can enjoy a range of performances, booth games, lucky draws, unique products, and delightful delicacies.
