If you want to distinguish yourself in a fine Italian suit, then have a wonderful bespoke suit experience at Il Salotto by Dal Duca
As an international finance hub, Hong Kong attracts businesses from across the globe to its shores. You can easily find everything from stylish indie fashion stores to sustainable online shopping platforms like WOMB and Yeechoo in Hong Kong. One location that brings the stylish flair of Italy to Hong Kong is Il Salotto by Dal Duca, a by-appointment-only salon that tailors bespoke suits, shirts, and ties that are all handcrafted.
Il Salotto by Dal Duca
When we stopped by for an espresso with owner Marcello Pignatelli, we quickly were enamoured by the beautiful store. Unlike the behemoth international stores that line the streets below, Il Salotto by Dal Duca has created a haven of Italian style.
“When customers come, we close the door. We sit down on the sofa. Before we start talking about suits, I want to know about him: what he likes, what he does. Then we can find the direction for him. It’s nice because it becomes more personal; it’s not just selling,” says Pignatelli of the venture.
Dotted between beautifully crafted suits, ties and fabric swatches, little nick nacks that Pignatelli has collected and selected create a truly bespoke shopping experience. Clients can sit on the comfortable sofas as they listen to Italian music from the 30s and 40s and discuss their needs and wants, as Pignatelli works out the best garment.
Handcrafted in Italy
Il Salotto by Dal Duca works directly with companies who have been in the garment business for years. Sartoria Pirozzi for example has been crafting bespoke suits in Italy for nearly 70 years, while Marco Pescarolo reinvents Italian tradition in a contemporary way.
Pignatelli says that the store caters to a range of gentlemen from across the globe, including a large number of well-heeled Hong Kongers, Japanese businessmen and more. “Of course, there’s a huge Italian community in Hong Kong too, and often people will just pass by for coffee. On Fridays, people will come a bit earlier, and we’ll enjoy some Peroni together. We want to break the ice and make things more social.”
What about the fabrics
A number of vintage silks can be chosen from to create either shirts or ties, many of which are exclusive to Il Salotto by Dal Duca outside Italy. Books full of swatches allow guests to browse the stunning selection of fabrics, and Pignatelli has a selection of suits styles, shirt collars and cuff options in store for gentlemen to choose from.
Bespoke suits have always been popular in Hong Kong, but if you are looking to take your suit game up a notch and enjoy a new experience, then this is definitely where you need to head.
