We went over to Eightyeight in Central for an out of this world manicure.
Whether you’re booking in for an affordable massage, stocking up on cruelty-free makeup or getting pumped full of energy via IV at REVIV Hong Kong, we here at Honeycombers Hong Kong are big believers in doing whatever you like to make your beautiful self feel great. So, when we needed to amp up our nail game recently, we headed over to Eightyeight in Central to see how the high end salon would tackle some dark galaxy nail art with intricate details. Find out how the manicure went down.
A manicure at Eightyeight in Central
Located in the heart of Central, as soon as you walk into Eightyeight, you feel that you are in top quality salon. On the ground floor, the main floor, guests can relax in the comfy surrounds as they get manicures or pedicures while sipping on tea or coffee. But we took it a bit extra and used the VIP suite upstairs for our review. For no extra price, you can ask to book this suite, and take your friend along to get manicures at the same time. It’s the perfect spot to catch up, plus we are huge fans of multitasking, so we’ll definitely be back for some manicure dates.
The salon keeps up-to-date on all of the latest nail trends happening across the globe, from Japan to the U.S.A. to France and beyond, so it’s a great place to go if you are looking for inspiration. Plus, the experienced staff are happy to advise you on what might work best for your needs.
Galaxy nails
I had been wanting galaxy nails for a while, and when I saw how beautifully Eightyeight was executing the trend on Instagram, I knew that I needed to try them. I had a very dark colour tone in mind, and I showed the technician an image of what I wanted before she went off to grab all the (many) colours.
The process itself took around two hours, as each layer added a different look to the lunar base. Dark navy, French, lilac, rose were all applied, with hits of glitter adding to the starry effect. My nail technician was super precise and friendly, and she really knew how to get the exact look that I wanted, as I sat back in comfort and listened to Shinee and other K-pop playing in the background.
Finally, she hand-painted a selection of beautiful stars onto my nails and added some tiny ones to help the pattern have a more realistic effect. I loved them!
How did they last?
Honestly, the nails looked outstanding and I got so many comments from people about them over the next few weeks. The only problem was that after only three days, I began to see the first signs of chipping. While this was minimal and hardly noticeable thanks to the design, I would recommend getting these for a special occasion in the not-too-distant future.
